My time and space to work on miniatures has decreased significantly, so my mind started wandering into the "what can I use to play instead, but still play the system of Infinity" area. With the recent Star Wars The Force Awakens, my interest in Star Wars started rising again. Then the peanut butter and chocolate collided and I started thinking, why not use my Star Wars prepainted miniatures but plug them in as substitutes for Infinity. My google fu was weak on this one (because I'm at work), so I didn't find where anyone else has done something like this (plus that whole Infinity video game adds a layer of difficulty).

Does anybody here know if anyone has worked on doing a port of Star Wars setting to Infinity rules? Preferably N3, as that is what I'm working from. It might be something I try to tackle (time is more available than space - plus easier to work on laptop with small child around than it is to glue/paint a model).

Edited to clarify: I realize I could just use my Star Wars prepainted models and say this guy is X, that guy is Y. I'm actually looking at being able to play in the Star Wars universe instead of Infinity setting. So force powers and such (which I feel would probably just be mocked up as special abilities and such - jedi mind trick maybe a type of Impersonation, jedi leap would be super jump).

Honestly, if you want to play any form of Star Wars, FFG is the go to.

Regarding your issues - reduced space and reduced time, I'd heartily suggest grabbing Imperial Assault rather than trying to shoehorn Star Wars into Infinity.

It's got a massive amount of replayability, a built in skirmish mode (which is admittedly very barebones compared to Infinity), and regular support from FFG which isn't very expensive. Hero/Villain ally packs add a lot for their price to both the campaign system and skirmish mode. They are mostly jsut replacing tokens from the main games, which FFG included to cut the model count down a bit, but buying the model itself gets you more missions for skirmish and the campaign, agenda decks for the Imperial player, equipment cards, and more. Then there's the actual expansions like Twin Shadows and Return to Hoth, which add even more enemies and heroes, and new campaigns and skirmish missions. Once you add on a few packs, the amount of content you have to play is immense.

It also has the benefit of being a big box game, so you don't need your friends to also buy in, and outside of buying expansions, you get everything in the single box. No measure tapes, no templates. I'd just suggest some kind of divided storage container for all the tokens and mini cards. Plus the benefit that you don't need to try to talk other people into playing a homebrew game. And if you specifically want Star Wars, not Infinity Star Wars, then that solves that problem too.

The miniatures aren't fantastic - they're essentially high quality board game miniatures. But if you were going to play with pre-paints, I assume your're not too concerned about that.

Thanks for the reply Loki. I'm looking for more of the skirmish substitute instead of the Imperial Assault campaign. Something that we can sit down and build our forces and play. I do like the rules for N3, which is why I wanted to go the route I was looking at. And yeah, I'd prefer playing with nice Infinity miniatures, but I've got far too many of those sitting around unassembled/unpainted right now.

I'm looking at doing something similar with SW and Necromunda, just seemed like a cleaner fit to me.
Ironically (?) I've been distracted by playing actual Infinity for the first time.

The only part of Star Wars I'd have issues converting over are force powers. Though making them essentially work like hacking but able to target normal infantry would work. Even things like lightsaber users deflecting shots would be easily represented with a high hyperdynamics level.

You'd need to really bump up wounds though on the hero units, or you'd be watching Vader step out and die to a few blaster bolts which just doesn't seem like Star Wars. Maybe drop everyones BS to 5 or something because people in Star Wars usually couldn't hit the side of a barn they were standing beside.

Actually now I'm thinking of actually trying this out with Imperial Assault models.

Hmm, I think I would have force powers work as follows.

Force Sensitive(X): This rule indicates a miniature is strong in the use of the Force, a mystical energy field which permeates all living things. The value in place of X indicates how many force points a model has in a turn to spend. The following powers are available to all miniatures with the Force Sensitive rule, some models may have additional force powers. Unless otherwise indicated by the power, all Force Powers use Willpower for their rolls.

Deflect: ARO, Face to Face roll vs attacks that do not have the Non-lethal attribute. As an ARO, a model with Force Sensitive may declare they are using Deflect. When declaring this ARO, the model must declare how many force points they are spending on deflect. For each force point spent, roll one dice for the Face to Face roll.

Range Bands:
0-8: +3
8-16: +0
16-32: -3
32-60: -6

Force Move: Short skill. When declaring this short skill, declare how many force points are being spent. For each point spent, roll one dice for the roll. For each successful hit on the target, the target model may be moved 2" without changing facing. This movement does not provoke AROs. This movement may cause a model to suffer fall damage.

Range Bands:
0-8: +3
8-16:+0
16-24: -6
