SO I was looking this over, both as a player and as a TO:

http://wizkids.com/attackwing/wp-content/uploads/sites/4/2015/08/72005-Instruction-Sheet_rev.pdf

And I have questions...

1) when discarding Crew/Captain or Taking damage, do you choose between the three, or do you remove crew, THEN captain, THEN take damage?

2) Does Sphere 41 get to roll the +1 Defense die at range 2, and the +2 at range 3?

3) WHAT THE Was Wizkids smoking on this? I DM for D&D, and even on my most sadistic days I am kinder than this scenario... and I have actively designed encounters to kill the whole party!

Has anyone already played it or have a particular take on the working of the rules? I need to know in order to run the even correctly and I need to know so I can try to build something that the Scenario won't kill...

Who the F K thought up this mess. There is so many special rules to keep track up. It severely punishes Klingons and Romulans, who do not have wide access to Scan. It also benefits fleets like the Borg, Federation, and Dominion who can have fleets with high hull/shields and require little maneuverability. This is HORRIBLE. At my one venue we tossed out Balance of Terror because no one wanted to play it, I'm thinking same might happen with this.

As for your question the way I read it,

1) it says "either" crew, captain, or take the damage, so I take it to be the players choice as to which they suffer. Of course if you have no crew or captain you are left with the damage.

2) The rules say treat the Sphere as a ship so according to special rule #5 & 6 it gets the bonus dice. So ouch if you don't have a scan token and at range 3, that's 8 dice.

3) Maybe WK has moved their HQ to Colorado because what ever they are passing around is not legal in my home state.

That said I do like #3 the game could use less Picard/Dukat combos throwing BS & TL around. #4 is nice because we don't need any 7 die Borg attacks, but it hurts the little ships.

By your read, does the damage hi the shields or does it hit the hull directly?

To me it looks like it just deals damage which would go to shields first then to hull. They usually specify "to hull" if it goes outside the normal sequence.

I am considering the following for one of my ships:

USS Equinox-20
Captain Picard (TV)-6
Bellona Tores-3
Hikaru Sulu-3
System Upgrade-2
Unimatrix Shielding-5
Immersion Shielding-3
Upgraded Phasers-3
Tactical Station-?
Type 8 Phasers-2

47 plus Tactical Stations. if I need to, I can down grade the Picard to Ahab Picard.

But I have really been enjoying turning the little ships into dreadnoughts. The Reliant turned out to be a little too squishy, but perhaps now...

Honestly I don't think you need Sulu in this one. I have run a similar Equinox a few times, the only times it was destroyed was once by the Bioship Omega Pilot and once by it getting caught by 3 ships each rolling 5+ dice. Even that second time my opponent did just enough to take out my ship, one more evade and I would have lived to get my shields back up. I would save that crew spot for some Quark tricks or something to disrupt your opponent.

If you get in a position where you won't be shot at, Troi and O'Brien are good for disruption. Otherwise I would go with Hood Riker or Tom Paris, something passive works better on the Equinox so you have your action free for the ship ability.

For penalty pure you could do officer exchange with Ferengi to get Quark in, Tar from the Kreechta is nice on Fed shipsmfor free BS. Also Captain Pike makes all crew -1 so he can get you by in penalty pure.

I was just thinking Riker was a solid choice. I am still trying to come up with a second ship, since the Equinox eats most of my points.

I have been debating trying for my standard competitive build:
-Enterprise D
Rudolph Ransom

Constellation Class

x2 Fed Fighters

Or Running this:

-Tactical Cube w/ Full Assault
-Sphere 4270

If you wanted to be really mean try

Officer Exchange Feds/Romulans

22 USS Intrepid
01 The Doctor (Or Ronald Moore)
02 Type 8 Phasers
03 Upgraded Phasers

20 Constitution Class
00 Centurion
00 Admiral Hiren
02 Type * phasers

20 Fighters

20 Fighter

90 points

I know there are lots of anti fighter upgrades out there, but I don't think people will be expecting 2 sets. Even if they go for your fighters you have a 5 attack Intrepid and a 4 attack Constitution to throw at them, plus what ever your blind is. The Constitutions also have a revers in case of cloaked mines and the fighters have a 1 come about. Mirok for 1 point with exchange program isn't a bad idea either, if you want to take him over The Doctor.

Officer exchange takes away faction penalty for crew, captains, and admirals between the two factions, AND makes captains and admirals -1 point. So with officer exchange 1 point captains and admirals are free

With the constant damage, I was considering running Prototype 01, With a Reman with Mirok, and some upgrades.

That or run A fed fleet with the Equinox, the Prometheus, and a third ship with Picard and Scotty. I might grant one of my ships Trip, since he autorepairs damage if you aren't in a forward firing arc, which the Borg won't have.

I could do a Species 8472 fleet, since they have the Regenerate action.

Or a simple Borg Fleet.

If you go with the Reman/Mirok combo bosst his captain skill as much as possible. He has to be within range 1 of a friendly ship to repair so if he moves 1st your moves are rather limited and more predictable. Romulans have Admirals and Security Officers, so you can reasonably get him up to a 7 on a Reman Warbird, and Mendak is always useful

Ok so you have peaked my interest. I believe you said you play faction pure so here is my crack at it.

24 Prototype 001
01 Gareb (Toreth or Jarok 7)
03 Massacre (always handy)
03 cloaked mines
03 cloaked mines
02 polarized Hull plating
05 Disrupto Beams

38 Scimitar
02 Mirok
04 Mendak
02 Romulan Security Officer
03 Interphase Generator

I believe that comes out to 90. You have two skill 7s, I like it when I have captains of the same skill because it lets me choose who is moving first, helpful with Mirok. I think the drones dial is has no red, but double check I've only used it once. He should be able to flip around and keep using his action to enable the Disruptor Beams or Mendak. The Scimitar can TL of Mendak. So two self healing ships with 5+ attack dice each.

On a Reman Warbird, I think the Romulan Helmsmen is a better idea. Gives you a red come about maneuver as a white maneuver instead, which has come in handy more than once.

I would agree, but he wants to use Mirok to have two self repairing ships. If Mirok's ability only works after he moves, if he is the lower captain skill it leaves you limited to maneuvers that keep him close to a ship that hasn't moved yet. It makes him predictable. The Security Officer give him two captains of the same skill so he can choose which one to move first.

I can always drop the drone pilot to a lower skill: in our local Meta, a 5 is as good as a 7, because the enemy is either an 8 or less than a 5. I could use the Helmsman to keep my opponent guessing, but at the same time. Skill seven is a really nice thing to have, especially if I face those pesky fighters.

If the scenario wasn't this crazy, I'd have made a Ferengi build for shenanigans.

Ok so I have a TCW 3 this weekend. After Regionals I'm feeling a little lazy when it comes to fleet building. What do you think of:

Officer Exchange Borg/Fed

46 Tac Cube 001
00 The Doctor

44 Tac Cube
00 Ronald Moore
00 Admiral (can't decide, either Hayden or Decker)

Hayden would just boost captain skill when Moore is disabled, but the Doctor could use Decker to damage people's hull.

I could change the named Tac Cube for Admiral Shanthi. I run into a cloaked Scimitar regularly at this venue, so messing with cloak isn't a bad idea.

Thoughts?

So this is what I am considering at the moment: officer exchange program to gain the following:

USS Equinox
-Mirok
-Arsenal
-Upgraded Phasers
-Type 8 Phaser Array
-Unimatrix Shielding
-System Upgrade
-Immersion Shielding
-Empty Crew. Slot

USS PROMETHEUS
-Donatra
-Regenerative Shielding
-System Upgrade
-Dorsal Phaser Array
-William T. Riker
-Romulans Helmsman
-Empty Weapon Slot

Admittedly, I would love a few more points (an even 100 would be PERFECT), and I am playing with the idea of using another Romulans Helmsman.

I actual;ly played it Thursday, ran with what a posted above, but I added Pahtak.

My Blind? The F**** Bajoran. any other scenario, and it would have been a great ship... not with this one.

My first game, we left the sphere alive, and it ended up scoring the game losing blow against my fleet (it rolled a hit and a crit, I rolled two blanks). I lost the first match by 1 point.

The second and third went significantly better, with my Bajoran being the only ship to fall, and the sphere dying horribly each time. The Action on Phaser Strike (attack at captain skill 10) is amazing. I let my opponent do all the heavy lifting, then firing my Bajoran off to finish the sphere, them picked apart the rest of their fleets with relative ease.

Crowning moment? my opponent had two remans lined up for a perfect shot, range 1 on denatra, target locked her. Then, she moves: speed 6, right past them to take a Range 1 shot on their exposed backsides. the Equinox disables one of its seven shields to repair all of the damage taken, and destroyes one of the remans.

We ran the final event for this on March 4th. My venue is "Fleet Pure"- meaning all cards in your fleet must come from a single faction. We also allow the Resource for that OP to be played in that OP (in essence, an additional resource). Fleet Building is 90 points with no more than 50 points on a single ship. We are having problems with getting the Blinds for this year, so the TO had to get creative. We still had some prize ships left over from other OP's, so he basically made "Blinds" with those ships. I scored a USS Intrepid as my blind. Only six of us showed up to play. That was our lowest turnout for an OP in a long time.

My fleet:
Species 8472 Bioship Beta
Generic Captain
Biological Technology
Organic Conduits
Resistant Hull

Species 8472 Bioship Omega
Generic Captain
Biological Technology
Organic Conduits
Resistant Hull

USS Intrepid
Captain Matt Decker
Flag Officer
Vulcan Engineer
Phaser Refit (?)- disable for +1 attack die
Astrogation Something... (allows an extra move)

Resource: Main Power Grid

This was a pretty messed up Scenario. I was kinda building for it. I wanted to take big beefy ships with a scan and regenerate action. I had taken my Borg Fleet (the Assimilated Galor and Galaxy class) in the last two events, and people started to build their fleets with a little anti-Borg stuff in the second OP. Everyone thought I was going to use the same fleet again and went heavy anti-Borg. I was very happy that I brought Species 8472 instead. Although at the last minute, I thought about bringing a Scimitar, Reman Warbird, generic captains, and mines instead. Looking back, that may have been a better fleet. Oh well.

Game One:
This one was against my Arch-Nemisis at the clubhouse: Mike. We always have close games and they are a lot of fun. He had an USS Equinox loaded to the gills with shield upgrades and Captain Ahab Picard. This was the build that if you don't destroy the ship in one turn, it regenerates ALL it's shields. His other ship was the heavy hitting Prometheus with a bunch of crew that gave him free Scan Tokens and Battle Stations. His blind ship was the IKS Buruk (a ship I really wanted, and we ended up trading ships at the end of the tournament). Mike is a die hard Federation Player and had no idea what to do with the Buruk. Early game, I advanced my entire fleet towards the objective and get within range 3 on the first turn. Mike Leads with his Prometheus, and keeps the Equinox and Buruk behind. He manages to do a ton of damage to the Sphere. I ignore the Sphere, heavily damage the Prometheus, and then Decker announces Shore Leave for his entire crew except the Vulcan Engineer, and sends them over to the Zindi Sphere... what a great captain! He's attempting to disable the sphere and save the Earth! Unfortunitly, it doesn't work out that way (Que dramatic foreshadowing music...). The next round, Mike realizes his mistake and concentrates on the Bioship Omega. He does a good number on it, but is unable to destroy it before Bioship Beta swoops in for the kill. Decker can't believe the Klingons are trying to destroy the Sphere, and retaliates by almost destroying the Buruk. Bioship Omega throws 8 attack dice at the Equinox, and manages to do one point to it's shields. Hmmm. Next round, Picard smashes his toy starship and gets all "Eye for an Eye" on the Omega and destroys it. Decker comes about and realizes the Xindi Sphere only has 1 damage left, and begs forgiveness of his crew as he destroys the Sphere with all hands on board "AHHH! My crew is dead! Kill it with Phaser Fire!!!". He goes a little bonkers after that. eventually, Picard manages to blow him up too. The Bioship Beta has only one target left: the Buruk. The Beta throws 8 attack dice at the Buruk and annihilates it. After that, we play a little cat and mouse until time is called and I win by 5 fleet points- 86 to 85. Well, more if you add in the bonus points for killing the sphere. We both had a great game!

Game Two:
I'm facing the Enterrpise refit with a bunch of crew, a stock Ent-E (the generic one), and he managed to pull the IKS Toh-Kat. He was one of the weaker players in the club house, but he managed to win his first game, so luck of the draw I faced him. It wasn't much of a game- After a couple turns, I realized I could out last his fleet simply by letting the Sphere and scenario do damage to him, and it readily complied. The game ended when Matt Decker blew up the Sphere on Turn 8, and the Omega used the Organic Conduits to come about in a surprise maneuver and throw 8 attack dice at the Enterprise Refit. I didn't lose a single ship.

Game Three:
Matt Decker is still crying about his crew, and killing it with phaser fire. My opponent this game had a Sutherland, Phoenix, and the most excellent Galor class Aldara. This guy struggles a bit making his fleet. As in, they always have a ton of upgrades, secondary weapons, crew, etc. etc. but he always screws up his maneuvers, shoots at the wrong things, etc. etc. I wasn't too worried about his fleet. The most amount of damage they could throw was 4 attack dice. Hey, he had free [BS], [Scan], and Dorsal Phasers, so he could throw those 4 dice anywhere, but still, it was only 4 dice. Well, that Aldara has some pretty sweet upgrades, especially the "Get +1 attack die for each friendly ship within range 1"- so that was throwing 6 dice! Still, I wasn't sweating, because hey, I knew he can't fly his fleet. Well, that was true. He flew his ships in a tight formation, and bumped everything on the table. His own ships, my ships, even the Xindi Sphere. My dice decided to take a vacation. I rolled 8 attack dice at the Sutherland, rolled one crit. Everything else was blanks or Battle Stations. I threw 8 attack dice at the Phoenix- got 4 hits. He manages to roll 4 evades. We go nose to nose, and and I'm thinking "OK. I'll use Organic Conduits to do a 180 and be behind him", and I do that. He chooses a green 1 for all this ships, bumping into my back end. I was a bit astonished. That was either the most spectacular, brilliant, best move he could have made, or he was just stupid lucky. Turns out, he was just lucky. He thought that was going to be his last turn (it would have been if he had done any other maneuver besides a straight 1...). Now, all my ships are out of a fire arc, and he is behind me. He concentrates all his firepower on the Omega and blows it up. All his attack dice came up as hits/crits, I could not roll a single evade, I even used the resource. 2 of the 3 crits where Direct Hit! I was just... well, I got upset that his dice were stupid awesome hot, while mine decided to take a holiday, and he got so damn lucky with that maneuver. The game ended with the last mission token being taken off the Sphere. I could have won the game game if we had continued to play. His inept maneuvering allowed me to blow up the Sutherland and reduce the Phoenix down to 1 hull and the Aldur with only 3 hull left and my Beta with 3 hull and 2 Aux Tokens (I was using that resource and the Beta's ability hard core...). He did manage to get Decker in the last round though. Result: My Beta was still around, and he still had the Aldur and Phoenix. It was a hugely disappointing game for me. My opponent was giddy as a school girl- it was the first time he had ever won against me out of probably 20 games. We still shook hands, and it's really, really hard for me to be upset that I lost a game of little toy Ships, so I shook it off pretty fast.

For OP 3, Mike took first, I took second. For the entire event, I had a 3-0 OP1, 1-2 OP 2 (remember when I said everyone started to run anti-Borg stuff? LOL), and I went 2-1 in OP 3. So I was 6-3, and Mike was 6-3. Believe it or not, he won by 1 fleet point. I couldn't believe it! We did the prizes a bit differently. The overall Grand Prize was a Xindi Weapon Sphere Premium ship that Mike got, I came in second so I got the prize cards, and the remaining 4 players got a Xindi prize ship. I traded my USS Intrepid for the IKS Buruk, though I was having a blast role playing Deckard during the event. I did a few other trades and got a Xindi Reptilian Ship and the TO gave me a USS Intrepid with the following stipulation: I have to use it during The Void OP. I think I can do that... LOL "My crew is dead! Kill it with Phaser Fire!" I'm gonna have to somehow work in both Matt and Will Decker.

Congrats, Double Bioships are soo much fun

I played TCW3 a few weeks back. Originally I had planned to play some borg, but I decided to go with some Battle Cruisers instead. I went with

Officer Exchange Indy/Dom

34 Second Division Cruiser
04 Khan 8
02 Quark (Projected Stasis Field)
02 Romulan Pilot
02 Power Grid

32 Battle Cruiser
04 Kar
05 Gul Madred
03 Romulan Pilot

My store didn’t get their blind brick so we decided to just play a 120 point game. I had to dig something out of what I had in my travel case. I came up with this on the fly.

26 Lakota
04 O’Brien (MU)
03 Tuvok
02 Type 8 Phasers
03 Upgraded Phasers
02 System Upgrade

130 Total

From what I remember my opponent had

Scimitar
Picard
Mendak

Prometheus
Donantra
Dorsal Phaser Array

Reklar
Madred
Aft Weapons

My Original idea was to use the Romulan Pilots to get close to the anomaly, the use the Stasis Field to pop it quickly. With my opponent reliying on cloaking I thought it better to let the anomaly eat away at his hull.

Here’s the set up. Forgive me if some of the detail have slipped after a few weeks.

I know my opponent doesn’t like to break his formation so I bated him with the Lakota. He committed Doatra and Madred to that side. I placed Kar and Khan to the far right hoping to use the Romulan Pilots to his him in the flank. As predicted he wouldn’t break up his formation so he placed Picard with his other ships.

Ignoring the anomaly I used the Romulan Pilots to swing in and hit my opponents Madred with a Stasis Field and I used My Madred on his Donatra.

It took most of my firepower but I did take out his Madred. The Lakota took some damage, but gave some back to the Scimitar. IIRC He his Khan with for some damage with his dorsal phaser array.

Turn 3

I put some more damage on both the Prometheus and Scimitar. Karr was lost to the anomaly and enemy fire. Lakota left the fight to heal some damage.

Turn 4

Khan comes about using the Power Grid and gets the drop on the Prometheus. Unfortunatly the Scimitar did the same thing to the Lakota.

Turn 5
Lucky for me he whiffed and Khan landed some good hits on the Scimitar, including a core breach. On the down side the anomaly hit me for 2 damage. Both ships are smoking with 1 hull point left.

Turn 6

He ditches Picard to avoid any further damage and he passes his Core Breach. Unfortunately I did a come about and landed right in front of him. Not that it would have really mattered much because he landed 4 hits and 2 crits with no modifiers.

In all a good game, it’s always fun when it comes down to one on one. We were tied for the grand priz so we each got one
