Alright, I played a while ago during 5th edition. When 6th came out I bought the book, but I never used it. Now I am thinking about getting back into the game, so I went looking for a 7th edition rule. Problem is, I don't want the art book or the fluff book. I know the fluff, and I have plenty of art, not to mention that my poor book shelves are bending as it is. Which brings us to my dumb question, or rather my dumb questions. Where could I find a copy of the 7th edition rule book? just the rule book. Do they even sell it stand alone? And if not, do I really need it? how big are the changes between 6th and 7th edition? Now, don't get me wrong, I don't mean to be denying Game Work shop their moneys, but I would like to hold on to some of mines.

I think its only stand alone as a digital edition. You can't get a physical copy by itself as you either have to buy the whole set or a Dark Vengeance and git a mini rulebook
Luckily you can always go to ebay or such and get just the rulebook or mini-rulebook second hand.

Would second eBay or a local Facebook gaming/trading group as your best bet. Bartertown is also very good.

Look on ebay for the small rulebooks that came with some boxes. Think you can have it much cheaper than the big one.

The e-book version I have is the same as the 3-book large-format pack. The rules start ~3/5 through, and is much bigger than it needs to be.
If you have a Apple iThingy, look at the 'gamer' editions on Black Library/ WH: Digital.

As mentioned, you can get small versions of just the rules on eBay for very little

There are enough changes to 7th edition that you will need the rulebook. Like Characters no longer has Precision Shots by default (they can still get it if they have the rule separately) and Vector Strikes changed. Not to mention the entire allies chart got overhauled (Greyknights with Khorne daemons ftw!) The 6th ed rulebook is still useful if you want to use fortifications, as those rules are no longer in the core rulebooks, but their actual rules did not change.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do. |
