Hey there peeps as I mentioned in another thread I am starting a Renegade Guard army and just wrote a rough list of what I want in 1,000 points. I'm not too worried about it being majorly competitive at all as I will only ever be playing with a few friends who play nids and DE mainly. Any pointers/CC are welcome as this is really my first 7E list I have written, thanks in advance

I know I haven't got any AA at all but as none of my friends use any fliers/FMC I don't see the point, I would like to say I have anti infantry covered and the 10 meltas that are in the infantry squads should cover any armour or high toughness creatures that my friends may throw at me As I said before any pointers or ideas are very much welcomed as I haven't actually had a proper game of 7E 40k yet so I may be missing some things out

I don't see a reason to get the grenadiers scout, it gives them a 6 inch move. Maybe I'm missing something strategy wise, but wouldn't it be way better to give them deep strike?

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh also, split your wyverns into 3 units since you have the slots. Prevents spill over damage if they attack onr, and gives you more target options in the shooting phase.

I only gave them scout as i didn't have enough points to give both squads DS so i thought it would be better to give both squads the same upgrade as opposed to giving just one a better upgrade? Might change some things in the infantry squads so i can afford to give both the grenadier squads DS or would it be better to drop the enclosed cabs on the Wyverns to free the points up?

Also, on those grenadiers I think a sigil would be better. Its a small unit and I think being able to ignore the first check on a small unit it better than rerolling.

Champions don't really add much to squads unless your giving covents, power weapons, or melta bombs. Dropping those would make up the points for deepstrike.

You need 3-5 Infantry Squads to make a legal platoon

Doesn't the infantry command squad count toward that?

So apparently i cannot read as reading back through the upgrades for the veterans DS is exactly the same amount of points as scout so im just gonna swap them over. With regards to splitting up the wyverns into individual units is there not any benefits in taking them in a squad? or is it just so you can fit more heavy weapons slots in?

I was under the impression that the command squad counts as an infantry squad? as the unit description says 3-5 platoon squads one of which counts as your infantry command squad?? i may of read it wrong so I'm going to double check.

I didn't see the command infantry squad

Its okay Crown, we forgive you.

The only advantage of them being in a single slot is they take a single slot.. By splitting them up they can not only target different units, but you can also place them in different places to open firing lanes and split your opponents units.

For your infantry squads, I don't think you can take a Vox, 3 Meltas, and a Sigil. It should be one per five in the unit iirc.

Oh ok fair enough, i didn't think the vox/sigil would count towards the special weapons slot.
Hmmmm do i lose a melta, or the vox?

Thanks for the help btw guys it's very much appreciated

No problem man. I'm newish to the army too so the sudden increase of activity (people posting R&H) was really cool.

I run them with both the sigil and the vox, two plasma guns. I run my list as more of a midfield gunline however, so these guys NEED to hold to protect my artillery. If youre using them to push up the extra melta gun might be worth it.

I run 4x20
3 with flak, 2 plasmas, sigil, and vox
Last is my command squad:flak, 2 flamer, sigil, command vox, and meltabombs on the demagogue. Since the demagogue is there he gets fanatic so their leadership should be good. I run them all with shotguns to push up and die heroically while my plasma squads get into place.

In the end, meltas are the only thing in your list that can pop tanks, choose wisely!

Yeah I'm largely going to use the infantry platoon to protect the wyverns and command squad. The 2 grenadier squads will DS and try to take out the toughest things in my friends army and then they can die (kinda sacrificial I suppose) and then the wyverns can finish off anything that's toughness 6 or less I suppose.

I did want to run an unending host but it's hard to fit in 1,000 points, but I'm sure when I expand with my dark skitarii and plague marines I will swap over. I mean who doesn't want all their troops coming back with outflank on a 2+

Unending host just sounds brutal if you throw a bunch of specials on them.

Those Grenadiers can't have two meltas and a vox sadly.

:( I think I will drop the vox then as I can't see them being alive for more than 2 rounds after they DS anyway so probably won't benefit that much from it. What to spend the 10 points on now though, can't be much I can add reinstalling surely?

I've had had wyverns put some serious hurt on my Vet Squads, those things are cheap and worth the points, they are force multipliers.

Yeah I did want 5 but I only had 210 points left which was conveniently enough for 3
