A while ago I received a very nice collection of models from an online exchange. The collection was filled with bits of chaos, Orks, eldar, dark eldar, and space marines. I've converted most of the models where they were needed, but the dark eldar have been sitting there and im ready to move onto them. I don't have any specifics on them and are not really familiar with the army. I've heard they're hard to play with competitively, but I'm just looking for a small list of maybe 500pts that can both be competitive and casual. Any small lists that you DE players have that I could use? Also paint colors work well for them? Black seems to be common but any others?

My friend runs red DE and they look really incredible. Dark bases, like green, red, blue and purple seem common, my dark Eldar are painted to match my Harlequins so they're kind of rainbow crazy.

As for a basic list, I would do something like:

Lhamean (Super super cheap 10pt hq)
2x Warriors in Venoms/Raiders
Reaver Jetbikes with Heat Lances and Caltrops
Blaster Trueborn in Venom or Scourges for Anti-Tank
Razorwing for anti air

Obviously you can't fit all of that but those are the basic, functional bits for a good DE army.

This is a nice tutorial I found a while back for a fairly classic DE colour scheme, and looks reasonably easy to reproduce.

This guy has a very nice red scheme going on.

How are Khymerae units? they seem fairly easy to make at a cheaper price than 20$ a pop. I'm unsure if they are effective in games but they seem like they would do well in large numbers.

I honestly don't know, I've never seen them in game.

Last time I saw beast masters it was back with the old codex when people combo'd the bird flocks with the guy who had the 2++ on the hover board.

Now they just seem like yet another thing tossed in the rubbish bin labeled "non Deathstar melee units" at GW Hq.

Concerning the painting just take a look into the Dakka gallery. Just search for Dark Eldar. One guy had some nice blue scheme combined with some weathering. Or for a red theme, have a look into my Dark Eldar Galery.

Isn't much to see (have to add some recent pics but I am too lazy :p), but you get an impression how it might look. And before you ask, the wyches are conversions.

That's a shame They seem like in pacts they would be helpful. I'll do some more research on them, though to find a list that includes them for some sort of benefits while playing.
