Hello! A few friends and I were thinking of investing into a camera of sorts to file some simple battle reports for our club. Nothing crazy. I was wondering what type of camera/camcorder people used to make theirs?

Should it be something on a stand like frontline gaming or should it be hand held like mini wargaming? What about a go pro?

The set up frontline uses works because they have multiple camera angles and a switchboard that allow for broad or focused videography while streating the gsme. The handheld works because you can focus on certain parts of the game in smaller chunks. I think your set up just depends on what you want your battle reports to be like, short and sweet or long and detailed.

I personally wouldn't go the frontline route, they have 5 times the amount of equipment that other reporters use and they still can't be bothered to get a clear shot of the action. A static camera is worse then taking actual pictures and just typing up a report IMO. For a handheld just buy a mid ranged camera for a couple hundred bucks:

The quality comes more from how steady your footage is and how you edit, but most importantly what your footage is of. You don't need to capture every roll, however you do need to focus on the thick parts of the action.

look for a camcorder that uses at least 1080P, you want one with the ability to have an external mic connection.

other things to look at would be the type of format it records in. most do Mp4 but some have a slighty better format but youre looking at bigger files.

the external mic option is a must. im looking for a set up that will let my opponent and myself wear separate wireless mics but it seems hard to configure on a commercial use camcorder.

I wish I knew what kind of a set up MWG uses.

don't use a GoPro due to the wide angle view. its basically like a fish eye lends and will distort the edges. I think you can disable that feature but you'd be spending just as much on a regular camcorder and in some instances less on a camcorder than on a goPro
