Contents below have been updated- check them out!
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1682672801/nova-aetas-dark-renaissance-tactical-game-0
Here are all the current stretch goals included! Over 20 and counting!
It's been up 3 times so far on Kickstarter, actually funded both previous times, but the designers wanted to polish it up more... third time was the charm. Funded and in to stretch goal territory in less than a day.
WHY BOTHER? some of you may ask.
- Something different! How many other fantasy- infused Italian Renaissance skirmish games do you own? I don't have any. Enemy choices in the box are not the usual goblins and orcs either. You've got agents of the Papal States, Venetian Agents, and quite angry and evil looking Woodland folk!
-Modular campaign with side quests as well.
-AI driven enemies (which means no need for a GM).
-Hero progression with branching classes (that will hopefully get minis if they get high enough funding)
-Cardboard scenery to populate your little Italian villages and countryside battles.
-An interesting turn structure. You put your action tokens on the Horologium to determine turn order and can mess with enemy activations as well.
Figures are supposedly 38mm, so may run a little big. Not a problem for some of the funkier enemies, like the Satyr and Centaurs, but makes the humasn a bit large. Nice sculpts though.
Interesting NPC characters that can help or hinder your cause...
Could be an interesting one. Take a look and check it out.
They put up a beta of the rule book as well.

1st time the project was cancelled with about half the funding goal reached.
2nd time it was unsucessful as funding level was not reached in time.
So how was it "funded both previous times"?
As for backing it, meh, unless Mythic Battles really tempts me or there's another Zombicide, I'm pretty much done with KS and the associated bs that goes along with it.

Ugh, trying to stay away from kickstarters at the moment, but they have a very interesting turn sequence. It's tempting me...
Glad they're upfront about PVC, and hopefully the larger size will prevent mushy details. It does take away a lot of the temptation, both material and size. I already have quite a few models with "No-Face" sitting in boxes, don't really need more.

I could have sworn they had actually reached funding in both of the previous campaigns. I'm sure it did in at least one. Maybe it was the second one, it started hemorrhaging for some reason, then they decided to relaunch again.
I'm willing to give them the benefit of a doubt. Reminds me a lot of Fire Team Zero. FTZ was also a co- op set in an atypical setting for this type of game (WW2 horror/ survival).
Fire Team Zero also had a pretty rocky start, got canceled, got relaunched, hemorrhaged, came back a third time, and got it funded (and then went and did a French edition that continued to pile on stretch goals). There was a lot of doubt about FTZ but it came out really well, but I'm getting way off topic ... (check it out if you're into really tough co-ops).
Anyways, Da Vinci and his puppet minions are in, and the next stretch is up. (Sadly, the puppets are just tokens at the moment, as are most of the fodder baddies, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a stretch/ add on to replace some of them.)

To be fair each time they've come back the game has appeared "less of a risk". First time I took a bit of a gamble backing high as I liked the setting, second time I only backed a $1 because the project was a sinking ship. This time planning seems much better and it's nice to see some resins.
Nowadays I'm conserned when a miniature project has a low goal and doesn't hit the 100's. Depending on how this project goes I may stick with it, I'd still like to know who is making the models, otherwise the retail price seems reasonable for no risk. Automatically Appended Next Post: Btw, ( iirc)
1st attempt flatlined at ~50% funding of ~$60k goal.
2nd attempt reached a lower goal of ~$ 40k but dropped to ~$30k again by the time it was cancelled.
I'd like to see the battle pope return. Though I like Leo and the other dude looks straight out of Assasins Creed which is cool. I hope there will be stretch goals to get a set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle namesakes. That'd seal the deal for me!

I stand humbly corrected in regards to the funding situation.
More stretches have been unlocked besides all the stuff I already posted.
I really like the scenery. I hope its strong enough to be able to hold more than just board game pvc figures on it.
Circe is interesting in that she is able to turn characters into pigs, as she was supposed to... from what I understand as well, depending on your actions you can trigger these npcs to either fight or help you.
and also the next stretch is almost unlocked as I type this...
Next up are pet rules, for capturing animal tokens you come across. Hopefully those animal tokens can become figures later on.
Speaking of pets, the first add on allows you to capture them. Supposed to be 30, but they haven't shown any renders yet. Salamanders!
That's supposed to be momma salamander. Here's what characters are supposed to be able to capture and raise.
Supposed to be some sort of surprise for backers coming later today/ tonight... will keep Dakka posted.

Pet rules are in.
and a new npc shall join the heroes soon enough... who looks oddly familiar.
He naturally has a big white wolf pet token.
I really hope the pet tokens can get replaced with minis down the line.
Speaking of minis replacing tokens, one got added in to the Salamander expansion. Supposedly this thing will be a Kickstarter exclusive.
There's also discussion of PVP model as well as solo questing in the latest update.

I'm taking a rain check on this one. I think focusing on producing the core box should have been enough.
IMO With the model count increasing disproportionately with funding, I'm conserned that I'll see another Journey:Wrath of Demons. Journey did good by me sending out a core box but I've no idea when the expansions may come.
Also with such a rich history to choose from, adding Game of Thrones characters just seems a waste let alone a legal liability. C'mon seem to get by this via parody.
Taken too many risks on kickstarter to carry on throwing money at it.

Those were resin masters.
There are resin heroes available as add ons for those interested.
This one keeps on clipping along. Latest stretches since the pigmen were acquired.
A brand new mini campaign were you have to escort some amnesiac kid that all the bad guys are after.
A PVP mode, that will hopefully get a print version, especially since there was talk of PVP arena tiles that could be coming down the pipeline at some point.
Forgot about this goal, which added more locations to visit between missions and side quests. Such a wonderful combination of places to visit! Probably one right after the other as well!
NEXT UP: More enemies to tangle with:
optional Zodiac cards that influence the turn structure on the Horologium.
There's supposed to be another surprise coming soon.
I'm guessing the manticore add on from the original campaign?
Also, pet art, that currently exists as tokens but will hopefully get sculpts:
Also also, the head priest, a KS exclusive included with all pledges, a pyramid head wannabe that does bad stuff to the good guys.
Rules are available on the KS page if you're interested in checking it out!

I think KS fatigue affects hype. Too many 3D renders, resin masters that may become blobs in the end. I like the concept, mainly for the alt-history the fantasy less so. I'm probably not the only person on dakka thinking that this project is promising too much for too little. Too many red flags IMHO. Shame as KS seems quiet mini wise at the moment.

In defense of this KS, people were saying similar things about Fire Team Zero. Too much for too little.
That game turned out great. Figures were a bit bigger than I'd hoped (some of the monsters who were once human ended up quite large), but it was up against a lot of the same hesitations.
KS fatigue is definitely getting to be a thing, but KS users are also getting a lot more savy/ demanding out of game designers as well. Can't come with just a few renders and a great idea any more. You got to have a lot more work done beforehand if you want people to pony up the money these days.
My red flag would be going up if the mini stretches were piling up, but the stretches have been balanced out with a lot of easier to produce things as well- missions, cards, stuff like that.

First off, yup fellow Fireteam Zero backer here. (But I only had the balls to pledge for the box of minis so I haven't recieved anything yet) Fireteam Zero also pulled in ~$360,000. I also backed incursion, which made $208k during kickstarter (and that was tough on the creators despite the game having already been released)
Kicktraq currently puts Nova Aetas predicted to raise a third of Fireteam Zero. (But who knows what'll happen).
I'm not saying that I don't think Nova Aetas will raise enough to deliver pledges, I just think that the creators will end up having to contribute some of their own cash to do it. AVP made a lot but look at the problems that project had/has.
Any KS "first timers" are going to be met with some intrepedation. Do we know which manufacturer is planned yet?

I don't know. Zombiecide was $75 for the core game pledge in their kickstarter, and their goal was only $20,000, as opposed to $90 for base game, with a $40,000 goal for Nova Aetas. And the zombicide base game had twice as many miniatures. So I don't see how Nova Aetas could appear to be over-promising what can be done with the amount of money they are asking for.
Fireteam Zero also had a lower goal and charged less for the core pledge, for what seems like a pretty similar sized core game.

Not looking to go off on a tangent but kickstarter is full of "out of thin air" funding goals, not saying that the Nova Aetas goal hasn't been thought out, but there are creators out there using low goals to make their projects look more successful. Ie "Funded in 30mins!!1!", "Over 9000% Funded!". Great during Kickstarter promotion, bad if you're stuck funded with less than you need.
But I digress. I'm still following the project, it's now halfway through and as Highlord said, many stretch goals have been done in such a way that the game is improved but production costs are kept low.

The 20k goal of Zombicide is deliberately lowballed, so that Cmon can game the KS system and generate hype when their project overfunds by +XXX%. I don't think anyone actually believes you can produce a game like Zombicide for only 20k. The difference with Novo Aetas is that being Cmon, and being Zombicide, it WILL fund to the tune of millions, and hence zero danger that Cmon will not have money to cut the molds etc. While Novo Aetas is a much more unknown quantity.

This has broken 100,000, so the Manticore is unlocked! That adds a lot to the value of this for me, as I can use the manticore (and centaurs and some of the other creatures) for other things as well (Warhammer Quest for example).
I also like the unique setting, and the campaign with two opposing sides where you can choose which side to support. The game is sounding pretty good.

Yeah, it's definitely moving along nicely.
I forgot to post up a few of the last few stretches. Naturally these are all included now.
Up next- custom dice and a new hero included!
There are also new add ons available:
The Architect Hero, who is a 10 dollar add on class, including all the pertinent cards.
The Duel Pack, which includes 2 resin figures, the Pope vs the Doge, which costs $20 and includes new missions and enemy cards for the bad guy leaders.
I'm still hoping they consider upgraded class figures and some more scenery elements, either as add ons or stretches. A few more buildings and you'll have some nice cluttered alleys and streets to fight on.

Still no extra buildings, but a few more goals have been smashed.
Dice, Caterina Sforza, and the Cabalist are in, and we have new goodies to look forward to.
New monster types available in the expansion (a good reason to include it now?) and a new boss type added in for the primaevi.
Also some new add ons are showing up.
If the Final Fantasy Tactics homages aren't enough , now you can just straight up ally with Ramza or Delita and hope to recruit Thunder God Cid and Cloud Strife I'd suppose.
The Manticore is also available as a separate purchase (18) for those interested, as well as extra custom dice (10 for 10).
Going to be an interesting last 48 hours. I can definitely see those extra monsters getting included., and LMS have mentioned wanting to include more tiles as well.

More stuff getting unlocked... keeps on coming!
The goatman and doggy things got unlocked as this started into the final hours of the campaign, and now we've got this to look forward to.
Now there's an extra box to store all the junk that's coming with this campaign.
More interestingly, and as I'm writing this is just about unlocked- epic hero classes for your job advancements!
After that, digital stuff gets printed!
The twitter achievements were PVP rules, arenas and cards if everything gets unlocked and reaches the 135 (which it will). Automatically Appended Next Post: It just keeps on coming!
Twitter goal was met, 135k was met, PVP physical goods for everything are included now.
Next up at 140k is this guy, who is from a famous Italian series of fantasy novels.
And then at 145k is another building. FINALLY!
The U-shape is very strong with this one. Glad to see it catching on. Hopefully it'll get the last 2 upgrade classes before the campaign wraps up.
