The name of the game is to keep the Overlords alive:
• Overlords and Cryptek attach to a unit of Immortals (to Look Out Sir for them) who hang back near the Spyders (other unit of Immortals remains close to act as meat shield/something for the HQs to attach to if the unit they were initially attached to gets too beat up. There's a Veil in case they need to emergency teleport somewhere safer).
• Scarabs start close to Spyders, taking care to keep the CAD bases out of enemy line of sight. First Ret.Phal swarm gets 1 to 3 new bases pumped into it before they run off, the rest of the bases get put into the CAD Scarabs. Other Ret.Phal swarm hangs back to have the same thing happen to them in turn 2. By turn 3 or 4 the CAD swarm should be huge and ready to charge. The first swarm may have died and retuned so the Spyders can have something to pump new Scarabs into once the CAD swarm has left, either that or they'll have moved up close enough to be in range of one of the currently living swarms.
• Stalkers are arbitrary. They advance with the Warriors up front to act as bubble wrap. They can buff the shooters while advancing, but if either of them die it's no big deal.

Out of my Mind

Only thing I'd suggest is change run a 3rd unit of Scarabs in the CAD. Just pull 3 bases out of the Phalanx units and run 3 units of 6. You'll have the Phalanx units out front, and the CAD unit in the rear if fight Drop Pods/Skyhammer, etc.

T1, will still add 9 to the first Phalanx and send them off. T2, add 9 to the second Phalanx and send them off. T3 will add the 9 to the CAD. This unit probably won't get wiped out by games end unless your opponent shoots them first. Yes, you're not doing much with that unit, if one of the Phalanx Scarabs does manage to get wiped out since you're going to replace, increase them first anyways.

Just a thought.

Not a bad thought. Not at all.
(had been considering adding a third Ret.Phal just the express purpose of adding another swarm, but doing it the CAD way should be totally fine).
Alternatively, maybe don't add ANYTHING to the Ret.Phal Swarms and just send them out to die/get replaced faster, thus focusing on building up one super Swarm from the CAD each turn to release around turn 3?

What are the rules for the ret phalanx? I'm contemplating picking the box up.

FORMATION:
Spoiler:
Retribution Phalanx
- 1 Necron Overlord
- 1 unit of Necron Warriors
- 1 unit of Canoptek Scarabs
- 1 Triarch Stalker

From the Sands, We Rise: If the unit of Necron warriors or Scarabs from a Retribution Phalanx is wiped out, it can return to the battlefield at the start of your next turn. The unit must be set up within 3" of the Necron Overlord from this Formation.

Basically never ending Warriors and Scarabs... provided your opponent doesn't get wise and realize all he has to do is NOT completely kill a unit, at which point you're running around with a single Warrior/Scarab base trying to start fights with anything and everything you can find.

ive been tinkering with a 3x Ret Phalanx with a Royal Court. Take 1 GA and have the RC+ 3x OLs form a unit and run around in the GA. Don't have the 3rd Stalker and points are a problem, but something you might want to look at.

The trick with Scarabs in the Ret Phalanx is that you want them to be able to not only tie up the units in his turn before dying, but hopefully do some damage as well. I didn't think about it until you mentioned it, but having a 3rd unit means you could split which units you add scarabs to control that. If you're up against MSU, you could easily add 3 to each unit of Scarabs and send the 2 Phalanx units out on T1 for example. Or add 6 and 3, etc.

I only own 2 Spyders, but I think adding a 3rd unit to the CAD really makes this list/tactic pretty scary. Oddly enough, the image that came to my mind was a Tyranid version of Necrons.

The tricky thing with putting your Overlords in a transport comes the argument: "Well, he's not currently on the table, so you can't place any wiped out Warrior or Scarab units next to him!"

I agree with this as well, as I'd treat him as not being on the table either. Which is why I went with the list I did (I think you've seen it).

General Consensus is that since LoS isn't required, it works like banners, abilities, powers, etc. So it extends off the hull. Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that he's not on the table, so can't be placed.

Spoiler:
When the unit embarks, remove it from the table
and place it aside, making a note that the unit is being transported. If the players need to
measure a range involving the embarked unit (except for its shooting), this range is
measured to or from the vehicle’s hull.

Updated list to include CAD Scarabs.
I think this might work.

Gonna play around with a new different non-farm list, hopefully using 3 Ret.Phal formations and replacing the Spyders with CAD H.Destroyers (to get SOME use out of them).
Cannon fodder marches forward to die, but we've got 6 replaceable units of them, SO WHO CARES!

From 'Embarking' (Warhammer 40,000 7th edition rulebook, pg. 80):

If the players need to measure a range involving the embarked unit (except for shooting), this range is measured to or from the vehicle's hull.

The quoted rule shows that the argument that the Overlord is not 'on the table' has no merit.

Yup, got it.
May come in handy for the other list.

My counter argument to this is that the transport is open-topped. If you can target my Overlord, it's on the table.

You can't target the Overlord in an open-topped transport.

They can't? Then why are there rules stating that if an Overlord in a CCB is using a Phase Shifter, it can affect either the Overlord or the Barge?

*Pulls out codex for reference*

Oh wait. The CCB is a chariot, not an open-topped. Disregard.
