Just need some clarification on a few things about HQ's

Is it possible to run 2 HQ's in low point cost games, such as running a Daemon prince and a Masque of Slannesh in a 750 point game?

Also when running 2 HQ's does it at all affect formations in any way? For example, If I run Daemon prince and a Masque of Slannesh along with the rest of the units required for "The Great Cavalcade of Exquisite Excess"

In the default CAD, you need 1 HQ and 2 Troop choices. You can then go and select an additional HQ.

Formations consist only of the units listed. So if the unit lists 1 HQ of type X, 2 units of troop B and 1 unit of type C - only those units are inside this formation. If you want an additional HQ, it can't be part of this formation.

ah ok sweet, also with formations, are formations viable in all match types?

Yeah you can use formations anytime. In fact, formations retain their special rules even if the rest of the army is unbound.

Is that formation not in the apocalypse book? Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't believe you can fit that formation in that small of a points limit anyways.

In any case, I would talk to my opponent to see if I can use it in a normal game. I believe it's an apocalypse formation. Rending on a 4+ can be devastating and it would probably be best to make sure your opponent is aware it's designed for apocalypse.

That being said I don't think it's OP at all and probably should be a normal 40k formation by now.

Yeah that formation is Apocalypse only. Unfortunately I don't think Chaos Demons have any 7th edition formations yet.

This isn't correct. A bound army is made up entirely of formations or detachments. If you go unbound you lose all formation bonuses.

No. You lose detachment bonuses

Formation bonuses are fine

Just to be clear, "The Great Cavalcade of Exquisite Excess" is an Apocalypse formation and as such can only be used in Apocalypse games and not regular 40k

I actually looked up the rule right before I posted it. It explicitly says that Formations retain their special bonuses even if the rest of the army is unbound. Detachments do lose their bonuses though if the force is unbound in any way.

But yea, apocalypse formations are a little different and I would consider it lame (if not against the rules) to bring them in small point games.

Just throwing this in here because ive heard it ask before, you can have an hq join a formation, but it doesn't gain formation special rules. you can take 2 hq's but be mindful of the points cost and what you are sacrificing
