Asking because I want to run it but not lose friends.
I'm not that good of a player and it was my first big game using my new admech force. I wanted to try the war convocation. i don't even own a knight yet so i proxied one. Wanted to see if it was worth it.I got some cheese comments but the war covno special rules did not really come into play other than the shared canticles.

I've faced, decurion, gladius, new tau, new eldar. Compared to that stuff, I don't see it as being super OP but there is no denying that it is powerful. Mainly hear groans about it from chaos, nid and deldar players - which could be due to the state of their current dexes.

FYI - I ran it in a 6000pts doubles game - our side was 3k of Salamanders and the aforementioned Warconvo vs 3k Eldar and Dark Eldar.
No one knew the lists before hand. each player made 1500pts list. Game setup was rolled at random. Ended up doing dawn of war, purge the alien, we(imperium) went first.
Salamanders ally ran a full drop pod list with two fw pods - the missile launcher one and the shrouding dreadnought one. then 3 other pods with tac marines. - one pod had vulkan hestan and an inquisitor/psyker. The tac marines has meltas and flamers as per salamander fluff. the dread had dual flamers. - The Salamanders guy is a pure fluff fun list guy. he also had that stubby little fighter as well.
The eldar player runs kinda fluff lists(doesn't own a wraithknight - in his 10k pts collection) . guardian host. 3 walkers / all scatters, 3 vypers - all shurk cannons, 10 swooping hawks, fire prisim, farseer, support d cannon, dark reaper squad, mugan ra, firedragon squad/wave serpent.
Deldar - ran a hodgepodge - still building the army. 1 raider, few squads of cabalites and witches in venoms, 6 jet bikes, deldar fighter, talos/chronos formation with haemonculous.

We won but all that remained was the knight with 3 or 4 hull points, the dread, the flier and vulkan.

Cheese? Not very. Yeah, you get free things, but without FT-taxis most say skitarii/admech are decent but nothing special, sitting about even with most of the not tau/gladius/eldar/decurion, but not in the punishment corner with CSM/orks.

The real key is to learn which relics/wargear to use and which not to. getting 3 dunecrawlers with free icarus arrays will kill any flier/FMC in the game. Ruststalkers bro-ing out with infiltrators are a fast harassment combo that generally go after things like devastators, heavy weapons, mek gunz. rangers are objective campers who snipe out things with arquebus.

Then you get the cult shenanigans, Putting a pimpcane magos with a huge block of destroyers. IWND/FNP/Magos-ueberfix makes a near-RP levels of survivability.

Knights... well, take your free meltagun, take your free stormspear. yup. mmhmmm.....

They're powerful and can be played at the same level as point and click Eldar armies but they require far more skill to win.

The shared canticles is obviously the big benefit of the formation but most people will focus on the hundred-odd points of free upgrades you get.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"
