Doing my first tournament, and really my first games in over 20 years. So I figured I would start out with a Combat Patrol to get my feet wet. So I came up with a few options, and seeing if anyone has some pointers to help out with. The only unit that I have to have is one Troop choice, but can have up to 6, and everything else is one only.
Option 1
Elite - Vanguard with jump packs and dual Lighting Claw for the Sergeant - 120 points
Troop - Tactical Squad with Flamer - 75 points
Fast Attack - Assault Squad with jump packs - 85 points
Heavy Support - Devastator Squad with 2 HB and 2 ML - 120 points
Total 400 points
Option 2
Elite - Vanguard with jump packs, dual lighting claw on Sergeant, dual lighting claw on one veteran, and 3 bolt pistol and lighting claw - 145 points
Troops - 2 x Tactical Squad with Flamer - 75 points each - 150 points
Fast Attack - Bike Squad - 3 Bikes, and one Attack Bike with HB - 103 points
Total 398 points
Option 3
Elite - Vanguard with jump packs, Sergeant with bolt pistol and lighting claw, 3 veterans with bolt pistol and lighting claw, 1 veteran with bolt pistol and chainsword - 130 points
Troop - Tactical squad with Flamer - 75 points
Heavy Support - Centurion Devastator Squad - all with HB and ML - 195 points
Total 400 points
Option 4
HQ - Chaplin with Jump Pack - 105 points
Elite - Vanguard all with bolt pistol and lighting claw - 135 points
Troop - Scout Squad all with camo cloaks and sniper rifle - 70 points
Fast Attack - Assault Squad - Sergeant with bolt pistol, chainsword, combat shield, 4 Assault Maines with bolt pistol and chainsword - 90 points
Total 400 points
My thinking behind the jump units is the Raven Guard Chapter Tactics, which allow Jump Pack units to jump both in their movement phase and assault phase, which would allow me to close in for hand to hand faster, and allow my tactical or scouts to secure objectives and if I have a devastator unit, they handle long range and armor if they have any. I'm thinking options one or four are my best bets, but thought I would see what Dakka thinks, and get some pointers from some experienced players who have played some combat patrol.
Thanks
