Hi all,

Looking for some advice on how to create a desert weather look - most tutorials I have seen for weathering have been around mud and grime, I want to try and create the effect of a dusting of light sand - I have weathering powders and an airbrush but no real idea of how to start. Can anyone give me some pointers?

Very thin sand coloured paint for washes where you want the sand to settle in recesses. Very gentle drybrushing (soft 'mop' brush) to blush it on where you want.

BE SUBTLE; less is more and you can always add more but you can't take it off easily.

I tend not to use pigments unless I want quite a strong effect, but you can use the sparingly for similar effects.

Also remember that in the desert, as the temperature plummets at night, condensation forms on AFV. This leads to rust streaks. Modellers often use oil paints to do these.
Try looking for AFV magazines - they usually do tutorials & as the most recent wars have been in the desert environment, you should be able to find one quite easily.
Just did a youtube search & found this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVIMSXO6KJw

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!
