A friend of mine got us looking at these Heralds of Ruin Kill Team rules.

http://heralds-of-ruin.blogspot.co.nz/p/kill-team-rules.html

Looking online a few people seem to enjoy it and are getting into it, but nothing too in depth on the game is out there. I like this rule set because it's scaled down, not as silly as official 40k kill team and more importantly it has a campaign. My group doesn't want to start this only to find later down the track it isn't worth playing.

So anybody played this a fair amount? Would love to hear your opinion.

Can't say I played it extensively, but when my friend an I were first starting out we used the rules to make up for our lack of models. Every so often well go back and play it but we never really used the campaign part of the game. Seems well written, we just played too irregularly.

That being said I wish they had a minidex for Renegades and Heretics..

Yea we thought it was weird that that wasn't included as well. Most of the fan rules always have bad guy guardsmen in it.

It seems like the chaos list accommodates this a bit though.

I think the closest you could get is running either a normal Imperial Guard force, or going with the Genestealer Cult, which itself is pretty cool

My group plays these rules alot, when we don't have the time for a full game. I find it streamlined, the army lists are interesting and seemingly pretty balanced, and overall the rules make for very cinematic, tactical games. I think they're great. I'm in the process of coddling together a few precise missions and using it as a campaign format.

I also think they'd be a great way to show people roughly how the game works. They recommend 250 points but I've never seen a problem scaling up or down.

Playing without injuries makes games very fast, and playing them with injuries forces tactical decisions when things don't go 100% as planned.

I'd recommend anyone give them a whirl.

We will be playing it for campaigns I think.
