So I have just a quick question:

Can Guard heavy weapon teams still use there Lasguns?

If I remember correctly, Guardsmen don't lose there Lasguns when they form a heavy weapon team, and it is listed under there wargear in the codex.

Does this mean that if I want to I can shoot there Lasgun instead of the heavy weapon? Kind of like when a SM player chooses to use a squads Bolt Pistols instead of the Bolters if he still wants to shoot then charge.

I understand that I would only get to shoot 1 Lasgun as the Heavy Weapon Team is treated as a 2 wound single model.

The reason I am asking is because if I wanted to have a squad with a mortar but want to move the whole squad forward I want to be able to still shoot the Lasgun from the heavy weapon team so as to not lose as much firepower (and the mortar couldnt shoot anyway due to not being able to fire snapshots with blast weapons).

That's how I read it, and how my local group plays. That's also why I model the loader with his lasgun in hand, to physically show that I can have the model use a lasgun instead.

If they still have a Lasgun listed in their wargear, yes, you can shoot this lasgun instead of the heavy weapon.

But only ONE lasgun, because it's only one model, despite being two dudes.

You're correct in this, and yes, the HWT can most certainly use the lasgun it's equipped with. It's a 2W model but otherwise it's no different than, say, a Space Marine who shoots his bolt pistol instead of his special/heavy weapon.

I'd have thought so, it would just be the loader snapping off some shots whilst his gunner is repositioning the heavy weapon. Also, in most cases I can't see many opponents objecting to a couple of extra lasgun shots rather than a fusillade of heavy weapons fire.
