Hello all... Im a super newbie and just acquired a Astra Militarum army and wanted to know if tank aces is something I can use and where I can find the official rules... Also besides the core rule book I have the Astra Militarum codex codex but no other supplements for them... What book or books do i need to get for them? Also I see a cadian supplement released in digital edition and was wondering if I needed that.... Thanks for all ur help

Nope, the main rule book and codex are all you NEED. There is also the mont'ka campaign book with extra formations and such.

And the Imperial Armor books if you want to expand your collection to Forge World stuff.

What kind of army did you get? What do you think you might want to do with it thematically?

I think tank aces is a formation benefit in the Mont'Ka campaign book.

Looks like you have a start to a tank army, or a decent mechanized infantry army.

With what you have, it looks like it was set for vets in chimeras, command squad in vendetta, and tanks doing tank stuff.

The formattions available in the Mont'Ka campaign book are... not so good. The infantry one is almost impossible outside of apoc. I think there's something like the armored fist in there too.

There is a pretty good armored battle group list in one of the imperial armor books.

Personally, I would downgrade those sentinels to scout sents. You can't use plasma cannons, but you can outflank them. Since Armored Sents with PC are stupid expensive, outflanking lascannon or autocannon are the best use for them in a CAD.

Regarding the Cadian codex, it is basically all the Imperial Guard relevant info from the Mont'Ka campaign book condensed into one book. So it's good if you want the Imperial Guard bits and not the rest.

It's good that you've found 1d4, it's a good source of info. Have a look there and if there's some Cadian formations that appeal you could get the Cadian codex. Since you are going mechanised there are some formations that could be of interest to you.

Gathering the Informations.

The "Tank Aces" rules are specific to a scenario in Mont'ka called "The Eye of the Storm".

Additionally, I would highly advise you pick up the Mont'ka Campaign book rather than just the Cadian supplement. The reason why is that Mont'ka also includes rules for the Imperial Assassins who are now available in a single blister format rather than the Execution Force box as the only way to buy them.

Assassins open up some pretty interesting choices for Guard--or any Imperial army for that matter.
