I am just getting back into the game after a 4 year absence (playing my firt game on Sunday).

As I've been out for quite a while myself and the other members of my gaming group never got round to buying a 7th ed rulebook - so our first game will be 6th ed to get back into the swing of things.

My question is, as 7th ed has been out for a while now, is it worth my picking up a rulebook or is there an 8th edition on the horizon and i'll just need to replace my rulebook again in a few months time?

If you and your group are good with staying with 6th, go for it. It might make it hard to get new blood, as the assumption is that people play with the most recent version. Also be sure to point that you play 6th if you ask for advice here, as there are a number of differences, some quite significant, in how the game plays/lists get built.

IMHO 7th didn’t improve the game significantly. I still upgraded, as that’s what was being played at the FLGS. I don’t think there have been any rumors about 8th anytime soon. but then, IIRC, there wasn’t a huge amount of noise about 7th, and the 2 year upgrade.

I just found the DV rulebook for £15 on ebay so I've grabbed it.

When I say "group" there's basically 4 of us that have been playing 40k together for a long time but all stopped due to jobs/kids etc and are just now picking it back up.
