At my desk

A few friends and I have been having fun with 1v1's of some HQ units and thought; 'wouldn't it be fun to have four or five of them like a kill team?'. This is mainly narrative based - as the books always focus on all the characters together and they're always sergeants, captains, librarians etc. we thought it would be cool to represent something like that on the tabletop.

Later today I'm taking a Two Chaos Lords, a Sorcerer and Noise Marine Champion up against a friends Chapter Master, Captain and three Sergeants. The points are roughly balanced (He's spent 12 points more, but neither of us are nit-picking that much for a test game). So I'll be reporting back with the results and whether it was any fun. I hope it turns out to be as fun as we think it will be.

Any thoughts or points of discussion would be interesting and appreciated.

Heralds of Ruin Kill Team. Right up your alley. And we are doing a rewrite right now as well

We do know about it, and we have played it extensively and it is a lot of good fun. However this is just using characters and characters alone, not regular models e.g. regular marines or boyz or whatever.

You would do well to design specific objective missions, and perhaps take turns to play a mook army instead of your kill team - replace the heroes with an equivalent number of points in scrubs. Chaos Cultists, Guard Conscripts, SM Scouts, Kroot/Pathfinders, etc.

You could look at the older Kill Team rules from 3rd edition as well, which had rules for sentries (and un-alert sentries) and the like as well.
