So I was thinking about getting some broadsides to expand my tau army, but realised that I can use suits for basically the same thing. If I you 2 missile pods I get the same shots, but I'm now jet pack, so I can move and shot, then thrust afterwards. The only thing I lose is the 2+ save and the smart missle system, what do you guys think?

Dont forget, Broadsides can also bring Heavy Rail Rifles to take out tanks from range.

Shame they kind of suck, and I'm rocking osc so tanks are not a problem.

A 2-weapons Crisis is 13p less than a base Broadside. For those amount you get better armour and better all-around weapons, as also one of the best drones.

If you like units of MP Crisis already starting on table and your FLGS/game buddies like heavy terrain, maybe Broadies are a better deal. Nowadays I rarely use MP Crisis anyway, so Broadsides are useful.

Also, they're relatively cheap AA platforms (not even 90p for one with VT)

The twinlinked high-yield missilepod is something that normal suits don't get, with the addition of the SMS and a better armoursave.

They definetly have a place in a Tau list, and are especially nice to use as an Interceptor unit, freeing up the normal suits ( usually hanging with the commander ) to perform other duties.

The HYMP are simply too devastating to pass up in terms of the sheer amount of death they put out. Any Tau list worth its salt will likely have three HYMP Broadsides.

Not so. The Stormsurge took this role over very nicely. The 3 HYMP Broadsides was a thing before the Stormsurge, but not anymore.

I'm more in favor of 3 Crisis Suits with Fusion Blasters doing the Deep Strike thing to take out enemy armor in the back field. I also want to use the Optimized Stealth Cadre for anti-armor work. Haven't yet, but soon...

I take both. They're still easily one of our best choices and still supplement the SS well. The storm doesn't have a lot of strong shots like the HYMP does. It all depends on your list and this is where I'm glad to see Tau now have a few viable builds thanks to our new units.

I've been having some pretty good succes with 2x broadsides +4 drones in retal cadre with drone net also there. Deep strike means you don't get alphad, relentless helps you walk around and with d you can get into.nice positions.

I wanna go back to New Jersey

Broadsides have advantage of slightly better durability, option to take missile drones, and not needing the buffmander/buffsgt for twin linking their own 4 missiles over suits. Soots have flexible risk/reward deployment option (unless you intend on using suit retaliation formation which makes this point null), JSJ, and the ability to be fielded as a "instantly remove thing from table in the shooting phase" unit if you over invest into making them a suit bomb and if you deployed them smartly so they can get their shots first.
