Hello all,
This is a little blog to keep track of the work I'm doing on my 5th (I think) incarnation of Captain Fabian of the Ultramarines 3rd company.
Base model is the clampack Captain, with parts from the Ultramarines upgrade sprue.

And now for some blu tack mock ups!

All C&C welcome and encouraged.

Nice to see you back at work.

The sword arm looks a little awkward tucked in. Might just be the angle. Looks more like he’s about to throw a spear, or stab down if he’s reversed his grip. If the elbow were out a bit, I think it would look more natural.

Thanks Nev, always good to hear your input. I'll be looking for a suitable replacement arm tonight, something a bit more thrusting, and a bit less throwing.
This update is barely worth the forum space, but just shows that I do sometimes paint, first layer of Macragge blue applied to the body and head, the rest is merely undercoated. Hopefully more to come tonight.

Took Nev's advice and switched the arm, basecoated the three main colours and wept in despair at how much tidying up I need to do after I did the inside of his cloak.

I’m not a fan of minis with cloaks molded on for similar reasons. I do sloppy basecoats myself. The number of washes I use also makes it irritating to tidy up. Nice to see some progress on the good captain. Any plans to revisit your old blog? How’s your army coming along these days?

This is actually the sum of all the work I've done since I updated the blog. With the kids being the age they are, I just don't get any time between work, keeping the little ones entertained, and spending time with the missus. Haven't even touched my Playstation in a few months! I'll revisit it soon enough, I've got a few ideas flying around, one of which is inspired by your biker Captain actually, one of my favourite conversions I've ever seen.

Loving the look of him so far.

As one who has built his own 'named' character for my Blood Angels army, I heartily enjoy seeing others posting up their own character models. Your Captain looks excellent and is coming along nicely. Also love his pose too.

Keep up the great work, and I hope to see him finished up in short order. I'll be following along here.

Take it easy.

You don't know me son, so I'll explain this to you once: If I ever kill you, you'll be awake, you'll be facing me, and you'll be armed.

Looking good. Out of curiosity, do you still have all the previous versions?

One of these days I need to figure out who’s who of my captains. They all should have names and companies.

Thanks for all the kind words guys, and I've only got one other incarnation left, my last one, based on the Ultramarines Chapter Champion, taught me a valuable lesson about how toddlers can reach anything they fancy, and the others were sold off when I got rid of my army a few years ago. You really should name all your Captains, I do like your BaC TDA Captain, he's fantastic.
I'll be posting a small update tonight, but I don't know how much I'll get done, I'm swotting up my product knowledge for Shop Idol 2016 (http://www.isellmobile.co.uk/shopidol/standings# link if anyone is interested in seeing the initial voting phase, my last name is Mulligan for those who want to see where I am for my company.) So I have even more reduced time on my hands. I'm aiming to get at least a few washes done tonight, ideally finishing his blade.

I didn't get as much as I hoped done tonight, but th missus and I did each paint up a Burning Blade.

Next we have the mock ups, I'm going for a primarily black and red crest, but there will be between one and three small white stripes.

Love the Burning Blades, also what red did you use on him?

Thank you, I'm very proud of how it came out, definitely something I'll be showing off as much as possible.
The only red on him at the moment, other than on the sword, is Mephiston red, with a wash of Nuln oil on his cloak.

I really need to work up a burning blade myself. Nice looking stuff!

Bit of work on the metallics and cloak, still LOTS to do on all areas, but it's taking shape.

I've been very busy lately, just not on Fabian, unfortunately. My local GW is doing a 'Konvershun Kompetition' on Saturday, as part of a full day of Space Marines turning 30. I don't normally get to enter these things, what with the two kids and the full time job. But this one starts at 6. And I'm on the early shift, so I can make it!
Doesn't have to be painted, but I'll try to do some more as that could be a tie breaker. Here is the fully assembled, until I take him apart again to paint the banner, Captain Fabian!

The base is partially done, just needs icicles, bit of rock painting, and a Hive Fleet choosing for the warrior skull.

As always, any and all C&C.

Turns out the competition is NEXT Saturday, so home we went and more work was done. I've pretty much got his helmet finished now, just the teensie bit of tidy up around the Ultima and I'm happy:
