Trying to rebase old metal models on round bases and I don't know how to cut the base to get the slotta into the base... Any tips?

I've not done this but I've seen it suggested that you cut the slotta part into essentially enough material to "pin" your mini, that is remove material from the middle leaving enough at the sides to keep it stable in the base. Then drill appropriate holes in the base and push the newly created 'pins' through the holes, voila, pinned metal mini on a non slotta base.

hope that description makes sense!

Yah, easier to just cut the slotta off and file the bottoms of the feet flat.

I would but I don't like removing parts of old minis, even if it's just the slotta... Feels wrong somehow.

Does GW still sell packs of slotta bases? If so I’d just buy them. Cutting slots in regular bases seems like it’s going to be a massive pain. Or look to swap with someone who has spares.

Might be easier to just make your own bases, rather then modify stock ones.

New oval and rounds don't come in slotta versions, no.

I haven't tried it but I imagine a dremel or rotary tool would probably be the quickest way.

Many moons ago I mounted metal slotta models to non-slotta bases using a knife to cut the slots and I remember it was a pain in the arse

Go on ebay and I'm sure you will find someone selling some slotta bases that you can use. I wouldn't try notching out a slot for the metal figures on a base, that would be a pain in the butt for sure. Most likely break the base more often then not.

you can keep them on the old bases and just glue the old base on the new one. Then just use some paste to smooth it over. It wouldn't be any different from people using cork to build up rocks on their base.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I use to do this all the time - just cut a rough slot shaped rectangle out of the base (slightly smaller than the slot your going to push into it). When you push the metal slot into it it will be nice and tight almost doesn't need glue.

Seems like a lot of extra work for no reason.

If you don't want to cut the tab, look for non-GW slottabases. Lots of small minis businesses around the UK, at least, sell the ones made by dice.co.uk. Although the 30mm+ round bases are slightly flatter, the 25mm ones are virtually indistinguishable from GW bases.

Except they've got a slot. And they're cheap as chips. EM4 Miniatures (dice's main retailer) sells twenty for a quid two pee.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.
