An krieg army is usually build with a gun line with atillery. Artillery has and needs a lot of foot infantry crew.
The other route is going for krieg cav. But that is also quite a lot of models. Krieg has better infantry rules and you pay for it.

If you like Imperial guards with less infantry I would advise to go normal IG with lots of vehicles and order some FW krieg pilots to change the feel of the army to Krieg.

As allies you might want to reconsider grey knights. If you want to field something powerful go for imperial knights or regular marines but it might help if you read upon the krieg fluff. http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Death_Korps_of_Krieg
