Myth. Spitting on it works though.

I'm serious. Air doesn't make ca glue set - restricting air does. You can buy super glue activators that make it set straight away - or you can spray water (or spit) on the join to do the same job

Huffing on it does in theory help due to vapor in the breath.
In theory.

What buttery said.
The moisture in your breath will accelerate it. You have to be careful though because it will only dry the outer shell of the glue so it will be brittle until it sets fully

Ooooo. I really did not know that cryoacrylate glue dries from lack of air. Neat stuff, thanks!

On a more serious note, your suggestion of superglue accelerators is probably the way to go. One tiny bottle will last a lifetime, and it doesn't get much more instant
The other thing to do is to have different viscosities of superglue. The thicker stuff takes longer to dry, and then thinner stuff generally dries faster, so, if you want a fast bond, use the thinner superglue! The BSI thin superglue dries insanely fast.

Super bonus round, use thin super fast superglue IN ADDITION to slow setting super tough epoxy. Much like using glue and screws in woodworking, the superglue merely holds it together long enough for the epoxy to set.

Errr.... have you ever actually tried it? Blowing on it does most definitely speed it up, it's the humidity in your breath that does it.
Imagine you're breathing on glass trying to fog it up (you do those deep slow breaths rather than when you're blowing on food trying to cool it down). If you have a drop of superglue on a surface it will most definitely speed up the drying process. It won't dry instantly, but if you're persistent a drop that would have dried in (for example) 10 minutes will dry in like, I dunno, maybe 1 minute. Just try not to pass out while you do it
I do it when I get a cut on myself and apply superglue to seal the wound, breathing on it makes it cure faster. It also makes it fog up the glue and surrounding area from the fumes that the glue releases more rapidly. The glue also tends to cure more rubbery (superglue is normally very brittle).
I've never tried it on models though, I don't know if it's a worthwhile endeavour for trying to speed up models drying. If 2 parts don't stick together almost instantly when supergluing it means I haven't done the joint right or I used too much superglue. I guess it might be useful in some situations though. Automatically Appended Next Post: And in practice too!

That would be breathing on it then, not blowing on it.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Splitting hairs much? I'd call breathing a type of blowing. I'm sure cold air blowing would as well, just less efficiently so. You are also agreeing with me in the classic skink style of disagreeing, so hi5
I only seek to inform and learn, I'm sorry if you have a problem with that, I'll endeavour not to reply to your comments in future :(

Don't get all emotional on me matey, we're all slaves to the brush here, and I've got nothing against you. At most i was giving you a hard time for being ever so slightly priggish.
Back on topic, the consensus is pretty clear - add moisture for faster setting times. More moisture, faster setting times.

Starting about January 20, 2016, 5 planets will align, forming an almost perfectly straight line from our vantage point on Earth: Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, Mars and Saturn. Cool, huh? At this particular instant, superglue will dry faster!! Gravitonitational forces on cyanoacrylate particles and all!

I was being silly, but actually yeah. Assuming you use a water-based paint, the water should help the glue dry.

Yes. Blowing works, but its the water in your humidified exhalation that accelerates the cyanoacrulate, not the air movement itself.

But wouldn't the paintbrush get stuck to the model?

I never said it was a good idea, just that it'd dry faster. You'd have to use a really good kolinsky brush for super glue red, definitely.

If trying to put two fiddly bits together, will put superglue on one bit and lick the other bit, the water helps it go off faster, normally holds enough for me to get the activator out

You know what helps?
Screaming at the two parts you want to stick together... constantly telling them they're worthless pieces of gak and that they'll never be as good as their better siblings or as good as Edna's children who are doctors... constantly tell them that they're wasting their lives being plastic pieces in a crappy model for a stupid game... tell them that their passions in life are just silly ridiculous childish hobbies that would scare away potential suitors... tell them they're failures as adults and they'll never be anything more then tech support...
...after screaming these things at the 2 pieces they'll be so emotionally distraught... so broken.... that they'll cling tightly to each other for emotional support...
...and that's how you piece a model together faster/stronger than blowing on super glue...
...or yeah try zip kicker... whatevs...
