Subject: Steel Legion as an Air Assault Regiment.

Hey mates, as you know (or for those who don't) The Armageddon Steel Legion are a Imperial Guard Regiment that specializes in Mechanized Warfare, as most of there Troops are mounted in Chimera APC's. With that being said, I am currently looking to do an army based off the Elysian Airborne Regiment, using Valkyries as their personal transports and I just wanted your thoughts. Do you think that the Steel Legion would work fluff-wise as an Air Assault Regiment utilizing Valkyries over Chimeras? Basing this idea off of the 7th Cavalry Us Army Air Assault Regiment and I just wanted to see how you guys think it would look and do you think it would be believable fluff-wise?
Appreciate the help mates .

Well I think it would work for dopes on a rope. Personally I think the Tau due air cave better. Your idea sounds like a nice fit though. You gonna use the gw metals?

I don't think the fluff behind the models should keep you from building an army list the way you want. I say go for it. It's always nice to see more people making armies out of older metal models

I don't see why not. Armageddon has it's own Jungle Fighter Regiments (fielded using Codex: Catachan back when it existed) owing to the ork infested equatorial jungles, it would make sense to have some airborne regiments for rapid response to incursions in the planets numerous mountain ranges.

The "Armageddon Jungle Fighter Regiments" were actually Catachan Regiments assigned to that specific area.

Theoretically within a mechanized regiment a single company or division of airborn would add a lot of tactical flexibility and support to the regiment. Following a similar logic if you're recruiting 10 mechanized regiments you'd want a couple of artillery, infantry, airborn, etc in there for support.

The problem with the 'vote with your dollar' response is that it doesn't take into account why we're not buying the product. I want to enjoy 40k enough to buy back in. It was my introduction to traditional games, and there was a time when I enjoyed it very much. I want to buy 40k, but Gamesworkshop is doing their very best to push me away, and simply not buying their product won't tell them that. |

Always nice to see more players interested in the Steel Legion. I've been collecting them off/on for a good 10-15 years now? (3rd edition..whenever that was) Anyhow I believe that yes it would be fine. While I cannot think of any Steel Legion air regiments off the top of my head...in the back of the 3rd edition Armageddon book it lists imperial assets present on Armageddon & I would be very surprised if there weren't a few incidents that necessitated Steel Legion to deploy via air cavalry in a war as chaotic & massive as Armageddon. I know there were quite a few stormtrooper companies deployed on Armageddon which often dropped off via valkyrie/vendetta etc. I actually just uploaded a picture of my Steel Legion stormtroopers a few days ago for the first time.

Love those models dude. I currently have Kasrkin models and enough to run an Airborne Formation from the Militarum Tempestus Book, and I was considering using Cadian Models to do a converted, Air Assault look with them. Still really tempted to do a Steel Legion Regiment as they are one of my favorites though, but do you think Kasrkin would work with the Steel Legion? Or do you think in that case I would be better off using the Scion models?

Me, personally? I would use the Kaskrin models over Scions. Cadia, Catachans, Death Korps of Krieg as well as several other regiments all have troop commitment on Armageddon so using Kaskrins is totally lore appropriate. That & I prefer the Kaskrin aesthetics over Scions
