My supply of Blue Ink is running low. I had picked up a pot of Drakenhof Nightshade to replace it, and was not happy with the results. I use it straight over Macragge Blue, and don’t highlight more afterwards. The TDA captain is with the new shade, the PA captain is the old blue ink:

The shade is a duller color, not the more vibrant sapphire that I like on my Ultras. Would picking up a pot of the Guilliman glaze help? Anyone have experience with it vs. drakenhof? Or hopefully vs. the old Blue Ink from about 2 paint pots ago? The pot in question is the same as the Bronzed Flesh in this picture.

This is not helped by the way GW keep changing the terminology they use!

The 'glazes' that GW sell are inks. The 'shades' (that used to be called washes) are slightly different; utilising a different vehicle (binder) that encourages the pigment to fall into recesses as it dries. The glazes and washes give a matt or satin finish, while the inks and glazes will give a slightly glossy look.

The nearest thing GW now sell to their old blue ink is Guilliman Glaze. However, you can still get inks from Coat d'Arms (who used to produce GW's range of paint); these will be identical to the old inks except for the names.

Here's a link from Hasslefree, who stock Ink Wash Blue, the Coat d'Arms equivalent to GW's blue ink.

The guilliman is a much brighter color than Drakenhoff nightshade.

All of the GW glazes are meant to brighten models by shifting colors towards the glaze color, while shades are meant to darken recesses.

Of course, use them however way works for you
