Subject: Horus Heresy Books?

Stubborn Eternal Guard
|
Hey guys,
I just started looking into Horus Heresy (probs gonna go for Death Guard) but am a bit confused by the books. Which books are the rules to be found (the Core Rules) and where are the legion specific ones?
If anybody could answer I would be very grateful.
On a different note, I would like some feedback on what the Death Guard usually take (to make my lists fluffy and to give variety). I know they relay on infantry, with heavy fire-power coming from dreadnoughts and terminators with siege specific vehicle and use bolter, flamer and melta. Apart from that, anything I should avoid/take?
Again, any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

HH uses the 40k Main Rulebook just like 40k does.
The general Crusade Army List for Legion marines is in HH Book 1 as well as the red Crusade Army List books (it might also be replicated in HH Books beyond Book 1, but I'm not sure about that).
The legion specific rules are spread out through the big black Horus Heresy books. I don't know off-hand which one has Death Guard. Legion specific rules can also be found in the red Istavan Campaign Legions book (this book does contain Death Guard).
Can't help you with what units to take. Never played with or against a 30k Death Guard army.

So, as Death Guard are in the Horus Heresy Book One, that is all I need to play Horus Heresy (as long as I have the Warhammer rulebook and the miniatures)???

The list in book 1 is a bit dated. Numerous additional units and erratas have been made to it the legion crusade army list since it was published in 2012. The most recent rules can be found in the red books which are said to be coming this march.

Think they might put some BA Legion Tactics in it?

Now, we like big books. (And we cannot lie. You other readers can’t deny, a book flops open with an itty-bitty font, and a map that’s in your face, you get—sorry! Sorry!) |

If book 6 comes out before it then there's a chance the new stuff from it will be in the new red books.

It's going to be tough to tell you where to start with your Deathguard without knowing what you want. The Deathguard are a slow yet tough army that ignore many of the psychology effects. They play dirty, in the sense they use Rad, Toxic, and poison weapons. Any flamer can be given toxic fuel to make them "shred" so enemy units in cover aren't as much of an issue. Rad grenades will help with tougher threats other legions struggle with.
