Subject: "Paintchipping" on Silver armour?

Hey there!
I am painting my GK stormraven right now and want to dirty it up a little.
Unfortunately, on the silver color the usual paintchipping techniques do not work too well.
Do you have any ideas?
Yesterday I came by my local GW Store and couldnt resist to buy typhus corosion paint since I remembered it made a nice dirty effect, but I am not sure how to use it correctly and if it actually fits my needs.

Utilizing Careful Highlighting

If you have silver armour and the paint were to chip, then what would show is whatever the coat underneath it was. Like some vehicles painted later, when chipped show their factory paint job. What colour that would be I dunno though. I'd pick what looks like a likely undercoat - if not what you actually used - and try that on a couple spots, on a trial piece first and see if you like the effect.
RE: typhus corrosion - love the stuff! I would experiement with it a bit before using it on your finished model. I find building it up gradually works best. I use a mix of a little of it, with water, and an old brush then apply. Then if it's not enough, you add more. But you're not likely to add too much this way.

Yeah, black or dark brown - alternatively, simulate rust and rust streaks

I second sing your life's URL
I've seen some articles on typhus corrosion, with Ryza rust over the top (drybrushed usually). However GK would not be overly rusty in my opinion.
I have never used typhus corrosion personally, how thick is the technical paint ?
One Idea I would try ( if typhus corrosion was thick and had some density to the pigment ) would be to reverse the technique in the article.
so instead of using the white first I would try,
1. Stipple with brush or sponge lightly typhus corrosion on the metal work.
2. lightly edge in a few areas with white.
3. use a black of a mix (typhus corrosion and black) to edge the opposite edge to the white.
But that's just an idea.

If its like a wash maybe use it as such,
What I suggested above should be done with a dense paint,
my go to colour is a 1/3 black, 1/3 dark brown, 1/3 medium metallic mix which I often use for stippling with a sponge or brush.

For typhus corrosion, watch the WarhammerTV video. It's very easy to use
In terms of paint chips on silver, black works great; black acrylic gesso also works very well, because it covers better than paint.
