How do you feel about using Alternate models to represent things in your army?

Here's an example: Lets say you're were playing Daemons and they wanted to go full Slaaneshi theme, but decided they just really needed Plague Drones, so They modded up some Seekers with wings for their Plague Drone squad and put them on flying bases instead of the normal Seeker Base.

OR if some guy just really liked the Warrior Priest Model from AoS, so he did a little bit a tweaking on it to represent Power Armor and stuck a holstered bolt pistol on his hip to use as the Chapter Master and kitbashed up 5 of the Sigmarites to look the part for his Honor Guard/ Command Squad.

Would you be ok with playing against these guys?

Would not be an issue at all, as long as what the model is makes sense. So your examples are perfectly okay. But using Night Goblins for permanent space marine stand ins? Nope. Creativity is generally rewarded with praise in this game community, unless they are TFG

As long as it's clear what they're supposed to be and they aren't confusingly similar to something else its generally fine.

Nothing wrong with it. Keeps the game interesting as long as you can tell what it's meant to be.

I do this a lot with models because I like to run something unique. Have yet to have anyone really complain, just make sure you go over the list with them in the beginning and make the conversions make sense

I have plans to use Lokhir Fellheart as a DE Archon, because he's cool and the new Archon model sucks - the pose is just weird.

As long as it's clear what it's supposed to be, relatively similar in size (so I don't feel bad about potentially cheesing LOS or you cheesing it), and isn't something ridiculous, but serious.

I use Bolt Action stuff for my Guard army. It is cheaper and the models look really good.

People use old Squat models with the Ork codex, and here's hardly any whinging about that.
Rule of Cool and WYSIWYG usually win over most objections.

If the model reasonably looks like what it's meant to represent, then I'll never have an issue with it.

Examples: an elf model (from whatever range) with the appropiate gear & paint scheme representing an eldar/dark eldar is cool. A historical tank representing a Leman Russ is cool (as long as the overall size is similar). Unmodified human soldiers carrying auto or lasrifles as Imperial Guardsmen: cool.

Ultimate example: an empty deodorant can, properly converted and painted, achieving a similar size to whatever vehicle is meant to represent: extremely cool.

Almost everybody knows an anecdote about facing some GW lobotomite who blatantly refused to play against alternate models and/or conversions because such a thing would have gone against the unshakable foundations of The Hobby(tm), but I think most people will be ok with alternate models and conversions as long as they resonably look what they're meant to represent and some decent effort can be seen on them.

This hobby should be about enjoying yourself while letting your imagination fly, not grumbling about why that converted model is half a milimetre too short to be a 'proper' space marine.

Progress is like a herd of pigs: everybody is interested in the produced benefits, but nobody wants to deal with all the resulting gak.

GW customers deserve every bit of outrageous princing they get.

Always Rule of Cool.

But I would try to make any such models to at least look like good approximations. Like using Skullcrushers of Khorne or Empire Demigryphs as TWC. That would be good. Using Marauder Horsemen as TWC....that's a lot more iffy, especially if unconverted.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
