So guys in between my eldar and tau tourney army I'm also building an Marine army and was looking at the Iron hands chapter tactics which are awesome
so for a competetive list i was thinking of this:

Demi Company (857 points)

Captain w/ terminator armour

Tactical squad w/ melta, combi melta and Droppod
Tactical squad w/ melta, combi melta and Droppod
Tactical squad w/ Gravgun, chainsword and Droppod

Venerable Dread w/ plasma cannon

Assault Marines (6x) w/ flamer, jumppacks

Devastator Squad w/ 4x missile launcher

10th Company (296 points)

Scout bike squad w/ Cluster mines
Scout bike squad w/ Cluster mines
Scout bike squad w/ Cluster mines
Scout bike squad w/ Cluster mines

CAD (703 points)

Captain w/ power fist, plasma pistol

Scouts w/ 5x sniper rifle
Tactical squad w/ gravgun, gravpistol

Stormraven w/ plasma Cannon, searchlight
Stormraven w/ plasma Cannon, searchlight, extra armour

so the Idea is the assaultmarines with the dread in the stormraven with extra armour, marines with gravgun/gravpistol and captain w/ powerfist/plasmapistol in the other
captain in termie armour dropping turn 1 with 1 of the meltasquads
scout bikes infiltrate and scout hopefully getting 1 or 2 units out and getting objectives through the game (cluster mines is mandatory for 10th company)
and we all know the purpose of the melta squads in droppods turn 1 hahaha
So what do you guys think?

I would drop one of the stormraven for two stormtalons and run the storm wing formation. I run it. It does work.

The storm wing has a huge draw back. If you roll a 1 or 2 for reserve you are dead. Happened to me tons. I would rather roll 2 dice for 2 ravens, than 1 dice on 3 planes and get nothing.

I own 5 ravens and 4 talons and a thunderhawk. Fliers are my game. Storm wing is fantastic, but its not without its risks. Not getting 750 -1200 pts of your army is rough.

Putting marines and dread in a raven with two talons and not having it come in basically sets you up for a tabling.

I run Sicarius and Tigurius in my list so things come on with a 2+ rerolling so that is not an issue for me, though I see your point.

If you are trying to be more competitive, I'd try to squeeze in 2 demi companies for the free transports. At 1850 this usually comes in at about 500 points of free vehicles, and as an Iron Hands player free boxes are the BEST boxes! Or, for 20p/each you can snag las/plas razorbacks.

A few things. You might as well keep the assault squad to 5 cause having that extra body does nothing.

You have no need to take a venerable dreadnought and then give it a plasma cannon. You should take a weapon which utilizes its bs 5. I would consider an assault cannon/heavy flamer and put it in a pod cause it has bs5 and 4 attacks so is a beast in the enemy lines.

Missile launchers are the worst heavy weapon you can take. I recommend lascannon.

Don't take the grav gun in the tacticals. Only has a 9 inch shot when you drop in and you will ding those 2 shots are often less important than a plasma rifles. same cost too.

No grav postol either. They have no real use. too expensive for a single shot. Tact a combi weapon if you are going that route.

I mean this in the nicest way possible, there is absolutely no way you should ever win any match in a super-competitive environment. You're trying to do too much with too little. Don't mix Demi-Battle Companies with CADs, there is nothing a Demi-battle company can do for you that a CAD can't with more flexibility. Grav is KING. If you run a CAD you NEED at least 1 squad of Grav Centurions in pods, especially with IWND and FNP. Just too good.

And like I tell everyone who runs Iron Hands, Chapter Master SmashFu*ker is the best thing in that whole Codex. https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Chapter_Master_Smashfucker

I like that you aren't relying completely on grav. While grav is very good I don't believe it's king. You still need ways to wound/kill void shields and low or no armor save models (hello demons and orks). Melta combined with grav is the way to go. I'd drop the teeth of terra on the chappy. His maul is good enough. At s6 he can hit rear armor on most vehicles. Give him a melta bomb to pop a raider if you need him to and have him roll with the assault marines.

I have a better idea for the chappy/fast attack choice with your demi-co. Run a chappy on a bike from your CAD, switch the assault squad for a bike squad with 2 grav or meltas and roll the chappy and bikes with the chapter master. Then he has some extra wounds and he's not rolling with scouts or on his own.

my 2 cents.
