Hi guys,

Round two of my Nihilakh dynasty Necrons. I was waiting on stuff from an art store before I could finish the models, and it finally arrived today. Needless to say I am stoked with the final outcome. There was a lot of experimenting, but I have nailed the process I will use for the majority of my models in the future, saving some fancy stuff for the larger pieces.

After taking the photos I realise how sloppy and messy they look. I was getting tired and impatient after a solid 6 hours painting. I had had enough, but thought they looked fine until I looked at the photos
I might go back and touch them up, but they are only to tabletop standard and I have a couple thousand more points worth of the steel legion to get through first! I am hoping once I get through everything I have assembled I can be more fastidious as I will paint them before assembling and will only be working with a few models at a time, rather then the 17 bases I was here.

Thanks in advance and any and all criticism is welcome.

Immortals:
Spoiler:

These were the first unit of troops I assembled, and it wasn't until I had assembled them completely did I realise they were all hunched over. The next bunch will be a lot better. My main gripes with these ones are the transition between the greens, I wet blended on the first lot of warriors I did, however I tried layering this time, and while it looks fine from afar, upon inspection (and in these images) it is very jarring and there is literally no transition. This is a practice thing I feel, and I just need to thin my paints out a bit more.

I am happy with the gloss finish and the pearlescent paint on the shoulderpads, and the yellow highlighting on the weapon.

Lychguard:
Spoiler:

The blue on this was achieved by using a few different items. It is a basecoat of dark blue, followed by a singular layer of lighter blue, with a pearlescent medium, a gloss medium and gold pigment. It paints on similar to technical basing paints, it is very very slightly coarse so you have to watch your brushstrokes or else it clumps up and looks terrible. But it is highly shiny and looks good with the darker blues showing through. A high gloss varnish sets it off. The swords are a pain, and my hand is not steady enough to paint it to a good level, so I think next time I will inverse the green, run it in the channels.

Scarabs:
Spoiler:

Overall these are fine, could have blended the eye a tad more but I am happy with the result. These used the same principal as the Lychguard.

Looking good, but thin your paints!!! Check out wet palettes if you want to keep up your speed without losing detail to thick paint.

I was trying to thin them down a lot more this time, I made a conscious effort, however I got a thinning medium with all the other fancy stuff after the majority of the models were done, I used it for the blues. The blue base coats went down a lot thinner compared to the rest of the models. From here on in it should be better as I realise I had to thin it down a lot more. I just checked out wet pallets, I think that will be the go in the future for the greens. Thanks for the advice!

Working on it

I almost did the Nihilakh color scheme. Looking at these makes me wish I had Fantastic job, I do think you should have thinned the paint a bit and maybe added a little more shading, but otherwise great job.
