Paint's starting to get flung at this now, so here's some WIP shots.

The build (arms are magnetised, everything else just pinned):

The idea was to have the Knight standing on some sort of Necron ruin or wreckage, so I've gone with an obelisk/pyramid structure, to be forcing its way through the basing... I generally start with basing ideas first - knowing *where* something is is a good place to start in thinking about what it's doing there, and why...

Base mostly done, whole bunch of dead Necrons to add to it, as well as some various Imperial-ish detritus:

And rough work on the Knight itself. The brief is to keep it dark and menacing, so the heraldry is deliberately fairly muted, once the weathering goes on (and there will be a lot) it should blend in very well, while at the same point keeping some contrast with the base and overall colour to make the whole thing pop.

Looks like it is off to a strong start, the base certainly looks great.

I look forward to painting one of these myself.

nice!!!
looks a like a really fun model to paint...

not to get controversial, but this is the size of model where the airbrush really shines...

your basing is really starting to develop a "Winterdyne" look...
i like that i can look at it, and know you painted it right away, even if it was just a random image in a Goggle search...
i dig the Necron pylon breaking through the ground...

i look forward to watching this one develop...

cheers

Progress. This is the first pre-decal gloss coat. I might put another on in some places if it looks like a silvering risk. The model is temporarily assembled (just pins and magnets) to help visualise where decals will go as I design them. Some parts are missing (ankle pistons, pipe on the gravity gun); those can't really be pinned (and the pistons need cutting to length) so they have to wait until the very final assembly.

Looks very nice.
But, it's Atrapos, not Atropos.

So it is. Deliberate misspelling on forge world's part, perhaps? corrected.

Couple of weathering stages still to go on the legs, but they're getting there:

very nice...
that grey is as pretty as a grey can be, and i really like the two metal tones...
that darker grimy metal looks great, and is really brought to life by the contrast of the shiny metal on the pistons and ball sockets...

this guy is going to be great!!!
hope you have been having fun with him...

cheers

Ugh, those colors are perfect together. When it comes to these larger pieces, a lot of people just stick to the same high-contrast style that works really well on man-sized, 28mm figs. They blast the whole thing with an airbrush, add a little white to the gravity-feed, and then blast the highlights right into the center of the armor panels. Call it a day.

But this beast, there's been a lot of care and thought going into it. I'm really looking forward to the end product

More WIP. Edges and scratches on the metal on the carapace aren't done yet.

Getting there slowly. Highlights and details to go on the singularity cannon. Will probably add more sharp scratches and chips to the legs before final weathering passes.

Amazing work. Can’t say I’m fond of the mini, but your paint is top notch!

Amazing progress!

Really think you should create a small tut. On how you do your weathering as it looks bloody amazing.

Which weathering in particular?

Mainly the weathering on the actual armour plates if possible?

I've picked up weathering for standard metals etc from various guides but for coloured plate armour, I've never seen it like this before and it really stands out well!

The look of this piece is dependent on the airbrush base coat - here I've highlighted to the centre of panels to help rims pop 'up' against a shaded edge.

Chipping / scratches are very simple and not really worth a full tutorial. Paint light colour line. Paint dark colour (often thin black works well, or black with a touch of the basecoat in, but use browns on light colours) line above it. Fine point brush and remember which direction the light is coming from. Chips are small dots / blobs. Scratches are lines. If you want to do 'finer' scratches then very thin lines of just the highlight colour work. I may go back and do some of that later.

Rust streaks is very thin glazed streaks of VGC heavy sienna, but whatever dark reddish/brown you use for the brown component of your rust will do.

Over this I'll put further glazes of a tan/earthy yellow mix for mud at the bottom of the legs, and the occasional smear of black / brown

This is very much a case of just quite a bit of pretty simple work giving the effect. It's laborious more than it is difficult, if you follow my meaning. The main trick is to ensure it doesn't have a regular pattern.

Knight's just about done (except varnish). Now onto paintwork on the broken Necrons for the base.

Not familiar with the kit, but it seems a little odd to have a fully detailed interior and nobody to drive it. I was expecting one in there. Oh well, looks great!

None of the FW knights come with a pilot. It's an optional add-on.

And complete. Wrecked Necrons on the base converted with some guitar string cabling and a little bit of greenstuff on the feet.
