I'm not writing a story about the Orks v. Necrons thread we had a while ago, I'm just writing about a grudge between a company of Ork Freebooters and a Necron Lord. I might try to get this published in greater work by BL, so I'll be holding out on putting it on here. Anyways, I don't know too much about Necrons, so I decided to post and outline of the story to get you guys to look it over for fluff inconsistencies:

Darvus is the Freebooters Space Hulk, Garzok is their Boss, and I haven't decided why the Humans wanted to get Orks help instead of the imperium, my best guess is that they're Heretics or something.

On Galeus Secondus, part 1
Darvus gets approached by a strange craft. The craft, piloted by a handful of humans, hail them in low Gothic and tell them about a job they need done, for great reward. Their planet, Galeus Secondus, is under attack by strange metal aliens who came from nowhere. Garzok accepts, and attacks these aliens. They are, in fact, Necron Cryptec. This causes much turmoil among his ranks, who know there is no way to combat the Necron. Frustrated, Garzok takes his armies into the tombs to take whatever they can get their hands on…

On Galeus Secondus, part 2
There, they are met with ridiculous resistance. Garzok barely makes it through, but pushes on. While the orks mount a full-on assault on the front, Garzok and his most trusted nobs go through the back and destroy and loot whatever they can get. Unfortunately, He awakens the Tombworld doing this. Garzok and his nobs escape, his other boys mostly don’t. Sivurarc, the lord of the world, awakens angry; He becomes bent on revenge and nothing else. He leads his whole ~35 billion Necron world out of Galeus Secondus to hunt Garzok down, indirectly saving the Humans.

Just a few pointers: Crypteks are not really going to be awake while the rest of the tomb world is dormant, as they're high-ranking. The only entities active during the stasis are Canoptek constructs such as Spyders, Scarabs, Wraiths, and, at times, sentry pylons.

Second, 35 billions necrons would probably wipe away a segmentum, so it'd be very, VERY unlikely they let a few orks escape, even with all the slow waking up after the Stasis.

Oh! Canoptek is what I meant, I just forgot their name.

I wasn't sure about the numbers, either. I'll fix before the first draft, thanks for taking the time to respond!

Are those orks pansy gits?
Why is there a turmoil when they hear about a good scrap?
Why do they know about Necrons at all?

Here is a freebie: get rid of all that "being asked for help" nonsense. Let freebooters board a refugee ship for loot and slaves, let them learn about Necron attack from questioning them. Why do they question? Da captin is kunning, that is why

Necron Cryptek leading raiding actually fits the fluff, although regular lord will fit in better. Tomb world awakenings may be a multi stage process, after all
There is also nothing wrong with the number of Necrons. However many there are awakening, it can be outrun just like an hour collodion in action films. Also: maybe there should be some artifact for which Necrons are hunting that Orks stole from them? Like in Word Bearers trilogy

Freebotaz often work as mercenaries, so you can leave that in easily enough.

The Imperium has a long history of using Orkish mercenaries, in fact - a planetary governor who knows that the nearest Imperial Guard regiment is weeks away, and detects an Ork Kroozer days away would barely hesitate to hire the Orks to fight until reinforcements can arrive.

The reason they were trying to get out of fighting necron was because they knew they would die quickly if they did. I put that in their for dramatic effect, but you may be right that that's not very 'Orky'.

On that note, I also imagined the Orks almost killing the humans before the humans offered them goodies. I thought this would make the Orks seem like the side my audience would want to root for, but your also right in that the way I have it written currently kinda makes them seem empathetic to the humans (not very Orky). I don't know, I may or may not keep this due to the points you raised, the main reason for keeping it being that I want Garzok to remain angry that he won't get the reward, then again if he wants it so badly he would probably just take it. So I suppose it's a moot point on my end.

That's a good point; Having them work as mercs certainly is convenient to the plot.

OK. There are some things to keep in mind then!

1) Orks love fighting more than looting, but looting more than anything else.

2) The best thing to pay an Ork with is a bigger fight with better loot.

3) Orks are never defeated. Dying does not count as losing.

4) Orks always get the best end of any deal. Especially if you ask the Orks.

5) Freebootaz are generally Morkaz - cunning, but brutal. If playing nice now will mean they get to fight both you and the enemy later, they will do that. Especially if you have good loot, but not with you.
