Hey, all! So, I'm super duper new to 40K - haven't even gotten my first game in yet, to be entirely honest - and I'm having trouble finding games in my area. I live in Hillsboro, but spend most my time in Portland anyway.

So, that said. I'm mostly looking for casual, fun games with as little cheese as possible, someone understanding that..hey, I'm new, mistakes are gonna be made. Not so much a mentor or anything, just someone who isn't hardcore, minmaxing, etc. I play tyranids, but I've got the units for an ork army that should be here by next friday(jan 29th, for those reading this in the future!).

Guardian Games has a pretty lively GW following, from what I've seen, and a pretty friendly atmosphere.

Hmm, really? I've seen a few people playing from time to time, but never much beyond that.

Do pick up games happen a lot? where like, people just bring lists and throw down for some games, or is it more coordinated?

I'm not a Portlander so can't give any specific info but I'd suggest joining the boards of Ordo Fanaticus

http://www.ordofanaticus.com/

Many locals to Portland, Vancouver and PacNW post and hang out there. The club is primarily based in Portland but many of the folks who post there are not in the club (like myself).

snoogums: "Just because something is not relavant doesn't mean it goes away completely."

Iorek: "Snoogums, you're right. Your arguments are irrelevant, and they sure as heck aren't going away."

Ordo's a bit cliquish, but a good group if you're looking for a gaming club vibe, been there a few times and it's a pretty typical mix, with a little more on the not engaging side and a little less on the aggressively weird side, generally older.

On GG, I just play other games there, so can't comment more than impressions. The problem there is that crowds seem really inconsistent: I can go 2 weeks in a row, and one (scheduled) night can be hopping and the next there might be one or no other players, or a couple quiet games going on. I guess that's a barrier if you're taking any serious time to get there.

Well, it might be worth packing my models up and bringing a list sometime I'm downtown, see if I can't find a game to kill some time. I also just found out there's a games workshop store in eastport plaza, might have to check out there as well.

I can't speak much for organizations, but I'm in Portland quite a bit (work down in Eugene) and am always down for a game or two.

Hey,
I'm in Portland and am down to play I think the games workshop store on 82nd is cool to play at or the gaurdian games like others were saying.

Hit me up on here so we can figure out when and where to play.
It would be sweet if we could get a few people playing regularly.
I'm pretty new to the game since like 4th or 5th edition a long time ago. I have like a 1000 pts of Harlequins and eldar and the start collecting Skitarii set FYI

Does Rainy Day Games still have tables/gamers? That seems closer to your side of town
