So I'm getting back into 40k after a few years and decided I wanted to start the guard army that I always wanted now that I have an income. I have already collected a large amount of infantry so my list reflects this. I don't really want to play competitively but will still like an army that can hold its own so here goes:
HQ: 177pts
1x CCS- carapace, master of ordinance, vox, standard, heavy bolter ,bolt pistol, pw
1x enginseer w/ 2 servitors
Troops: 733pts
Platoon-
squad 1. sergeant w/ bolt pistol, plasma gun, commisar w/ pw
squad 2. plasma gun
squad 3. flamer
Heavy weapon team. 2 autocannons 1 lascannon
2x veterans- sergeant w/ bolt pistol, 2x melta, 1x flamer, chimera
Heavy support: 590pts
2x leman russ battle tanks- camo, heavy flamer, dozer
1x leman russ vanquisher- camo, dozer, lascannon, multimeltas
1x wyvern
So what do you guys think I'm new to guard and to posting on forums so would love to hear any feedback and criticism

Not bad, my $0.02 is maybe drop one of the LRBT and add the ADL with the quad gun, so it gives your infantry platoon some cover to form a gunline for those autocannons (which rock by the way) and the quad gun will give you protection from flyers. I run a lot of autocannons, and use valks and vendets for my anti-armor. Good call on the wyvern, they shred troops like no tmrw. I just ordered one to add to my army. Best advice have s to find another guard player, and play him. All heresy aside, haha, it really shows you the strength and weaknesses of our codex.

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.
Jury-Rig - makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand, the Machine Spirit is not pleased......

Thanks for the advice I didn't know about the ADL it seems like an good thing to have. I was worried about not having anti air but at the same time I don't really like the idea of having a unit dedicated to it. Perhaps a vendetta then would be a good choice to have as well.

I think the leman russ battle tanks shouldn't have heavy flamer its a bit useless unless something gets close enough and its more than likely a waste. A heavy bolter gets more use in general
The vanquisher also is way too expensive with melta spoonsons and lascannon i'd say get rid fo the spoonsons they are too short range to be of much use and you don't have power of the machine spirit so more than likely you'll only fire 1 of them at any given time.
On the infantry platoon theres no reason to take a plasmagun over a meltagun on guardsmen. Even though theres a range diff, the fact is the plasmagun is pretty much auto death if you roll that 1, and the plasma wont be a threat to nearly as many targets as the melta.

I agree with a lot of this.
HB or LC for hull mounted weapon on the LRBT
Vanquisher cannon isn't ordinance. So, it's a tank that you don't have to snap shot your sponsons. Depends on your meta.
If you're just getting back in, then I'd take a look at using tank commander Pask. Crack shot and preferred enemy can make for some pretty powerful combos.

Okay I'm going to give the platoon all flamers instead as they are more cost effective. HB on LRBT sounds good as well. Pask sounds cool he reminds me of that ww2 tank ace who took out loads of british armour. Im planning on magnetising the tanks as well so I'll be able to test out all the goodies for them. Thanks to all you cool americans for giving me advice

Welcome to the Guard son!
When it comes to making an IG list there are 3 golden rules to stick to:
1) Keep platoon squads cheap - your basic redshirts are going to die... alot. Give them a flamer and thats it. Use them to bubble wrap your important units and overwhelm your enemy with numbers.
2) Tanks do the heavy lifting - Imperial Guard tanks are widely considered to be the best value tanks in the game. One Leman Russ puts out more firepower than a good sized platoon for many less points. And if your opponent doesnt use D weapons, they are really tough!
3) Company Command Squads are fragile - put them in a chimera and make sure you use your orders every turn.
Bearing this in mind, I would change your list to look like this:
CCS: Vox, Lascannon, MoO.
Chimera: Multi-laser and Heavy Bolter.
Commissar:: Power Weapon
Commissar: Power Weapon
Platoon 1
PCS: Mortar and Vox
Squad 1: Flamer and Vox
Squad 2: Flamer
Squad 3: Flamer
Platoon 2:
PCS: Mortar and Vox
Squad 1: Flamer and Vox
Squad 2: Flamer
Squad 3: Flamer
Vendetta
Vendetta
Leman russ battle tank- Hull Bolter
Leman russ battle tank- Hull Bolter
2x Wyvern
60 points left over for goodies
Like you I like infantry so I use a poor foot slogger army I rarely leave home for battle without 150 men!
