Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not; please move if there's a more appropriate location. Does anyone know of a place within a reasonable distance of DC where one can buy bits? I'm just getting into conversions, but it's difficult to tell the size of pieces online. Unfortunately, NOVA's a ways off yet, and I don't have enough of a completed army to justify going further for a tournament to gain access to the bits vendors.

You might get more comments if you ask a mod to post this in the Modelling Forum, rather than swap shop (click the little yellow triangle in the upper right of the message and ask for a move).

To your question, most folks use Ebay to buy bitz, there aren't too many bitz stores left that sell. Everyone has their favorite and not so favorite bitz sellers there.

It might help if you also posted what Bitz you were looking for. You could ask in the swap shop for specific bitz, or types of bitz, especially if you have something to either trade or cash to buy.

Most of the GW bitz are going to be "in scale" with each other for Necron use. Some of the 3rd party bitz sellers (Puppetswar, etc.) sculpt so that parts are compatible. Its hard to answer about size without knowing what you're looking for. Hope this helps.

That's the thing, is I'm not really sure what I'm looking for. I've decided I'd like to go more of a mech route with my necrons, and found some awesome conversions other people have done for inspiration. I've got a list of things I'll be siphoning away from my own kits that I'll eventually need to replace, but actually being able to see the size of other bits would be helpful. I'm most interested in bits from necron kits I don't own, as well as trying to mix in some of the eldar / dark eldar bits, but trying to judge whether or not pieces would work well together is difficult, when looking at pictures of sprue sheets. I would prefer to avoid 3rd party bits - some of them look pretty cool, but as I'm fielding a few forge world kits and planning on drastically changing some of the GW models already, I'd rather not give further reason for my models to not be allowed in games. I'll request a move - thanks for the info!
