So, I haven't played 40k in a good 3-4 years. I'm getting back into it with a new marine army based on my betrayal at calth minis. But, there's tons of options.. dunno how I want to build the army. The 2 characters are easy enough, but how do I wanna build these 30 marines?

3 tactical squads of 10? or should I do a devastator squad with the heavy weapons? I have 3 missile launchers and 3 heavy bolters. I also have 3 meltaguns and 3 plasmaguns.. maybe I could do 2 5-man devastaor squads, but with just 3 of each weapon so they all match?

And the ternimators.. looks like those would be better off as an assault squad, there's just a heavy flamer but lots of lightning claws

What kind of army would you build with the betrayal at calth minis?

Depends on whether you want to use GW's Space Marine rules or the Horus Heresy 30k Rules, as there's a few differences;

For one, Horus Heresy squads have different organizations if I remember. Each Legion has some unique units to them and unlike in 40k, special weapons go into the special weapon squads, which has a minimum unit size of 5 I think and all of them have to have a special weapon.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

When I'm editing alot, you know I have a gakload of homework to (not) do.

I was planning to use the regular 40k marines, just a vanilla army, no special chapter rules... just using the HH models.

I think I'll probably do the terminators as assault since it seems like there's a lot of claws and stuff and the only heavy weapon is a flamer.. and I don't really have any other assulty stuff.

Are marines these days better in squads full squads of 10? Or smaller 5 man squads? I was thinking I could probably do 2 5-man devastator squads, one with 3 missile launchers and the other with 3 heavy bolters. Then I could probably do either 2 units of 10 tactical marines, or 4 units of 5? I have a total of 3 melta guns and 3 plasma guns, so if I did the 4 units I could do 2 of each.

But, with only 5 guys in a unit they will be easier to take out, less extra guys to soak up wounds.
