Malcador or Macharius?

Hi all, I am in the progress of building a DKOK assalt brigade army. I'm a noob player, don't care about being ultra competitive.

I want to expand from 500 to 1000 points and for fluff and coolness reasons I want to include a Malcador or Macharius tank. It'll be paired with grenadiers and quad launchers, maybe a Rapier Lasser battery. What do you think? Which version makes sense in a 1000 points game but hopefull also in bigger battles as I expand beyond 1000 points?

Thanks!

The Malcador Infernus, or else the Macharius Heavy Tank or Macharius Vulcan. Personally though, I would recommend only including such a big model (and big points investment) once you reach 1850. At 1000, either tank will suck up a huge amount of points from other cool models. Having it as a finishing centre piece will also feel like rewarding achievement!

As for competitiveness, in the context that it's not a massive concern for you, the Infernus or Vulcan is definitely the best option. Consider taking an allied Inquisitor psyker to stand next to the Vulcan to give 30 Str 6 AP 3 shots re-rolls to hit! The Infernus' inferno gun is such a larger template with good enough range to roast infantry no matter how they are positioned; this is a good option for filling in a gap in the capability of the rest of your army if you struggle with killing massed infantry.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I guess I will go for the Malcador Infernus first, then see if I have the need for another big one beyond 1000 points.

The Macharius is garbage. It costs almost as much as the Baneblade/Shadowsword tanks, but barely out-shoots a LRBT. The Malcador and its variants aren't spectacular, but at least they're cheap.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.
