Hello everyone , I've just received my first Space Marine Rhino tank in the post today and think I'm going to go with a two or 3 different base colours instead of one colour all over. I plan on painting the left and right hand sides of the rhino a darker blue colour , and the centre of the tank with a white colour. However I'm not really one to do a lot of masking and would prefer to paint parts individually. What I could use a little help with is sub assembly , as its my first Rhino tank I really have no idea how to go about it , I'm trying to make it easy for myself to get the base coats down with little effort.

Is there anyone that has used a method like this on the tank ? and if so was there anything I should keep in mind when doing so?

If anyone has pictures of their sub assemblies that would be fantastic too!

Thanks for any help in advance !

Honestly, I'd mask it.

Search for buypainted on youtube, his subassemblies are really good.

The real issue is that it can be a bit of a pig to get together, so your paint will be at risk.

Can you mock up what you are hoping to achieve? I'm happy to have a crack at it,and have a test rhino looking at me.

Righto, if i wanted to reproduce that id do the following;

Assemble the floor / internal walls / front and rear panels
(Paint the interior first if you want to)

Don't glue on the outer armour yet

Sit the roof piece on without glue, stick the top hatches one with glue or mask underneath them.

Paint the whole thing blue/grey and work up to white.

Paint the outer armour black

Take the roof off and carefully freehand the transitions (should be easy) to black. Take the sides and carefully transition to white on the exhausts.

Assemble, take pictures, post to dakka

Thanks for the help friend ! I'm currently doing a little practice with colours on an old drop pod

I'll go with the sub assemblies that you've suggested when I move onto the rhino ! think I'm probably going to pre shade so working from a blue may not be necessary.
