Subject: The Night Lords : the CSM equivalent of the Dark Eldar ?

Hi people, an idea just came into my mind and I was wondering what to make of it. You see, I've always found the Alpha Legion, the Iron Warriors and the Night Lords awkward, because they were CSM that weren't that much into Chaos. Then, lately, while reading some info about them (mostly on their insatiable lust for murder, even preferring to engage easy prey rather than hard one, plus their habit of flaying their vitctims and using terror tactics), I wasn'T able to refrain myself to find some similarities between their behavior and the one of the Dark Eldars, mostly on the following topic :
Lust to inflict pain and kill.
Have no qualm about easy prey.
Terror tactics.
Stealth and fast attacks.
Akward relationship with the Chaos Gods (most of them don't care or don't want to associate with them, but some of them may work with it (yeah, their was once an Archon using daemons as troops, according to the last DE codex)).
So, can we say that the Night Lords are kinda the MEQ equivalent of the DE fluff wise ?
What do you think about it ?

No, we would need Legion rules to get that kind of stuff.

FudgeDumper - It could be that you are just so uncomfortable with the idea of your chapters primarch having his way with a docile tyranid spore cyst, that you must deny they have any feelings at all. |

Not really, they share some similarities but are pretty distinctly different in why they do what they do

Night Lords are more like Batman gone horribly wrong than they are like vampires.
The Dark Eldar and Night Lords share a love of cruelty, but they administer it differently. Dark Eldar prefer the swift raid, in-and-out, while the Night Lords go in more for sustained terrorizing. Dark Eldar haul their captives back to Commoragh to feed gladiator pits and flesh vats, whereas Night Lords seem to prefer wanton slaughter and the demoralizing effect it has on survivors.
So... same thing only different. Also, T4 3+ save vs T3 and hope-I-don't-get-hit.
My two cents.

Night Lords are like the Beastmen of warhammer.
They do what they do not out of religious dogma, not to appease some greater power. They do not do what they do as a result of having been manipulated, nor out of ideal.
They do what they do simply because it is what they are. And in this respect, like beastmen, (and probably despite the objection of some of their members) they are the purest form of the 'mortal' chaos forces.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Emperor's Children are closer to what the Dark Eldar are. Like the EC, the DE mutiliate themselves and others and torture/kill for pleasure. The Night Lords do it out of what they see as a duty.

Emp Children are the hedonistic ones, do drugs and torture people for the lulz, which is more in line with the Dark Eldar as they're basically both sense freaks.
Nightlords are just messed up in the head three ways from Sunday. They are cruel for cruel's sake, not for any greater scheme or purpose.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.
