Hey folks, what storage cases and foam trays do you use. I need to get a couple and they will just be for storage so no need for crazy durability. I was looking at kr cases - they seem sturdy enough, just wondered if there was a lower priced alternative which is of similar quality. I'm not neccisarily after the cheapest but best value.
Cheers guys

I use KR. I’d recommend it in general. I think it hits the sweet spot of cost vs. quality and options.
But if you are just looking for storage, and don’t need it to survive the rigors of being dragged out to the FLGS, you might be better off with one of the DIY options. Something as simple as a box and a towel will keep things safe in the closet.

I'd suggest KR as well. Inexpensive, good foam options, easier to expand a collection of small boxes than a single great big bag.
I'm up to 30 multicases now and it's definitely the right choice.

12 case-worths of KR foam, and 5 bags and cases.
KR does case-free foam, and cases to carry it in (I know....) if you don't like the cardboard. But the cardboard is what helps make the Kaiser so nice.
Keep an eye out for their offers.

I have a battlefoam PACK 720. It holds 2000+ points of pretty much whatever I want, and looks like the day I bought it after fifteen years of nearly weekly use.
Wasn't cheap but value for the 120$~ I paid for it? Oh yeah.

KR Multicase. Modular system, soft foam in card boxes, then slot the boxes into cases to take to the FLGS.
As an example.
Each normal box (KRU) holds foam. Normally half width, and trays are factions of the hight. Mostly either quarters or thirds. So you load the boxes with what you need, then put them in your case to head out. My case (in the back) is a Kaiser 3, so holds 3 KRUs. I do own 2x1.5 size cases, which would also fit. They make a variety of sizes and styles of bags.
If you were the kind of person who keeps everything boxed up all the time, you could just pre-pack stuff and just toss the army box you want into the case to head out. I’m always re-jiggering lists and like to see my minis on the shelf, so I re-pack and re-organize foam every time I head out.

I use the Plano 4-pistol protector case, it's dirt cheap and does the job. Not designed for 40k specifically but you can squeeze in tons of models. You should be able to find it on Amazon.

Go to fields Fabric, buy chunks of foam for like 6 bucks, they even have blocks thick enough for tanks and knights. then buy a cheap plastic box, preferably something square, large enough for whatever army you're bringing, Organizer bins up to toyboxes will be fine. Cut the foam to shape and size and yeah, it doesn't look as cool as a multicase or w/e but you can store an army at about 15 bucks per 2000pts(infantry)

We don't get gun cases sold anywhere (no guns) and few big shops that sell foam.
Custom cases can be done though, if we look hard enough for the foam.

One downside to using gun cases is the fact it looks like a gun case.(durr I know) but with that people see guns, and some people freak out when they see people carrying them. Or more common is when you leave the gun case in your car to be seen. People will more likely break into the car to grab the gun case for the gun they "know" is in that case. While not common, it does happen. A few people have found their armies in dumpsters near the building where it was stolen from when they realize it isn't a gun.

I have an old army transport case, I plan on using some REMs to create magnetic bases and slots for my minis in a shelving style. That way I don't get the grinding of foam, while still having a nice case.
Honestly, that's the best case you can have, is a case you make yourself as it will truly fit your personal needs. If you don't want that, then well maybe an Army Transport case if those are still around with those modular foam blocks. I really hate pre-cut ones.

My non-active stuff sits in plastic boxes filled nearly to the top (if possible), with a note that says "Fragile models, Move Carefully". IMO if it's going to sit there for over a month, it doesn't need padding.

Plenty of places in the US and Europe that you can mail order cheap gun cases.

This is a problem you don't get in the UK but people will still steal them in case they've got tools in them. Not to mention - thieves are stupid. Better not to leave any kind of case anywhere visible.

Personally long term storage is ether on the shelf or in a plastic box in storage. unless we start getting hit by 7.0 earthquakes everyday it wont shift. you can even put a layer of felt in between each layer to keep them from further moving around. should be FAR cheaper than buying individual foam cases. for on the go play cases though i really like the sword bag. its about 60 bucks. comes with foam and can hold a decent pick up game sized army if you are cleaver with your foam. as well its the same sized foam as sabol cases so the foam is much cheaper to get then from battle foam directly.

That it is. More customisable and you can colourcode and label as you like.
But, if you buy custom foam, I'd prefer not having to swap it between boxes and cases. KR's cardboard boxes are a compromise with that.
I looked at everyone else's stuff before buying KR, and I didn't want to spend too much on cases and boxes. I have no cupboards to keep wobbly stacks of foam, either.

So right now I'm moving and don't have access to a carrying case, so what I did for my completed minis was get a box, put a couple small dabs of glue on the bottom of the base and glued them in place. When I finish moving I'll just pull them off and then exacto knife away the glue and/or cardboard that stayed on the base.
For clear flier bases that I didn't want glue on, I just used packing tap to secure them.
