Looks like fun, lore is amazing, I'm suprised I haven't noticed it any sooner. Buying dark vengeance next week to teach myself and my son how to play. Is it a good value? Especially to stick to the chaos marines and dark angels.. Or should I just buy enough pieces for a small force instead. I feel limited by there being only one starter set.. Don't like the idea of an ocean of people flooding into the same 2 armies. On a $300 budget between pieces, paint and misc. Doodads

If you really like Chaos and Dark Angels, then yes, go for it. The models are very nice, however neither army are especially competitive right now - Chaos in particular are pretty much bottom of the list.

If there's other armies you prefer the look / sound of, then buy the Start Collecting bundles for them instead along with a rule book.

Agree about Chaos, disagree about Dark Angels. Dark Angels are very competitive right now (apparently). Ravenwing formations are some of the strongest in the game as is the Lions Blade formation that allows them full BS overwatch

Dark Angels are now at a pretty similar level to Codex: Space Marines. After Eldar, Tau and Necrons, Space Marines and Dark Angels are probably the next two strongest armies in the game. If you go down the Dark Angel route, then you'd want to make full use of all the Ravenwing units and formations. Black Knights in particular are excellent.

Best advice I have is follow the fluff you like, if you like an armies story, and the way they look, you'll stick with them. Betweeen building, painting, and customizing, that's where most of your tie in warhammer 40k is spent, and it makes the price tag worth it

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.

Jury-Rig - makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand, the Machine Spirit is not pleased......

Hi,

Welcome to Dakka
