I'm painting up some new Chaos Space Marines (the 40K kind) with the old World Eaters color scheme.

My big question is, several of my characters have capes or tabards and I was wondering what color to use for them to fit with the whole "Pre-Heresy" vibe.

Thoughts?

I have the same dilemma.

I looked through my old Index Astartes volume III, but none of the color reference pictures for the Heresy-era World Eaters shows them in tabards There are B&W pictures though...

My inclination is to paint the capes and tabards blue.

Blue, black, white, bone all look really good from just looking around.

It really depends on you rather than them - none of those colors are heretical in and of themselves

I've seen deep red work well for a bit more variety in the colour palette, as opposed to more blue.

3000pts Blood Angels (4th Company) - 2000pts Skitarii (Voss Prime) - 2500pts Imperial Knights (Unnamed House) - 1000pts Imperial Guard (Household Retainers)

2000pts Free Peoples (Edlynd Fusiliers) - 2000pts Kharadron Overlords (Barak Zilfin) - 500pts Ironweld Arsenal (Edlynd Ironwork Federation) - 1000pts Duardin (Grongrok Powderheads)

Wargaming's no fun when you have a plan!

Alternatively, you could do faded white or grey cloth, very tattered and bloody, depending on how far down the rabbit hole of heresy you want the force to have gone. Pre-heresy, I'd go for nice deep reds, for a more crazy and chaosy force, plain with blood splatters old and new as they get to the point where they stop caring about cleaning their equipment.
