Just bought a baneblade/shadowsword kit, which one should I make!

Is it possible to magnetize one that is all 8? or is it strictly Baneblade/Hellhammer and Hexblade varieties?

Im leaning toward the good old fashioned Baneblade just for sheer awesome factor/old school and pure versatility. On the other hand the hexblade is 6 different models, but outside of the stormlord I have zero clue about how the other variants play.

What do you Dakkaites think?

Thats just magic, thanks!

Also what variant gets the most mileage in regular play? ive been tempted to fill a stormlord with lascannon or autocannon HWTs and go to town on everything

Stormsword is the best in most situations. A 10" STR 10 AP 1 blast that ignores cover is great against pretty much anything, and 36" range (the intended balancing factor back when it was an Apocalypse unit) is a trivial problem on a 6x4 table. The Hellhammer is also decent, it drops the size of the blast down to 7" but adds a demolisher cannon to make up for it.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Unfortunately, the answer is probably 'none' - Baneblades are super expensive for what they provide, especially when you compare to other Super Heavy Vehicles or Gargantuan Creatures in the game right now.

Still, the Stormsword and Hellhammer provide very nasty S10 AP1 Ignores Cover Apocalyptic/Massive Blasts respectively. The Hellhammer in particular pays through the nose for it though.

The Shadowsword is like one of the only Imperial units outside of Titans/Thunderhawks that has a ranged D weapon, so that's always handy.

The Stormlord would be super awesome if Guard had melee units worth charging out of it. Though it could be an interesting way to get a melee blob into combat. You can use it as a bunker I guess, but that's a super expensive bunker lol.

The regular Baneblade is probably the best of the rest, with the rest being varying levels of meh. Again, its mainly because they're just too expensive for what they provide. Like is it really worth paying 430pts for a Banesword, when you could buy three Basilisks for cheaper and get the same or probably more S9 AP3 firepower?

Remember when taking a Baneblade variant of any kind was a green flag for your opponent to leap across the table for your throat?

I miss those days. Superheavies were only moderately overpowered rather than comically overpowered.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

I'm a fan of the Stormlord myself, but it has its short comings. 30 60" S6 AP3 shots per turn is pretty devastating. Combined with officer embarked inside with Kurov's Aquila & your are rerolling 1's to hit/wound along with everything within 6" of the base of the Stormlord, effectively turning your BS3 army into BS4. It cannot penetrate anything with armor 13+ which is a problem, but you can always mount lascannon teams inside the stormlord & shoot out the top since its treated as open topped, but its not.

I use a Shadowsword and Stormsword. Both are identical build wise, with the only difference being that the end of the main cannon is either the long Shadowsword one or the shorter Stormsword one. I just haven't glued the end of the main cannon barrel and it sits on perfectly fine and easy to swap.

Buying magnets is always the best option for these questions.

- They cost only a fraction of the cost of the model
- Applying them correctly only cost you a fraction of the time it cost to paint it.
- you will have a superior model that is simpler to transport and most importantly is fitter out the way you want it to be for every battle. If they change the rules or the meta just swap the weapons and you are done.
