I was thinking.. Better to have 10 grots sit an objective for 35 points or 4 toughness 7 3+ sAve grots with a kustom mega kannon for 40 points sit on an objective?

Yes you can hide the 10 grots out of los but the kmk can at least shoot only problem is leadership of the mek guns grots but mob rule... Plus they can hide behind the mek gun... Or if they can see the mek gun means they auto shoot a grot?

You seem to not fully under the artillery unit rules. While the artillery rules use the gun's toughness for rolling to wound in shooting, only the gun has a 3+ armor save. The grots still use their own armor save (of none)

Also the Mek Gun is still a part of the unit, they aren't separate. And you still follow the normal rules for allocating wounds to a unit so what ever model is closest get allocated a wound (be it a grot or the Mek Gun).

Thanks. Do you think it would make sense to replace the grottos

If you have the heavy support slot available, absolutely. T7 2W with 3+ armor save is going to be far more resilient than T2 10W 0+ save, imo.

Plus, you can get some decent ranged support out of it.

Or, you could get a lobba for even cheaper and shoot completely out of LOS with it.

That being said, spare troops slots are far more common than HS, and mek gun batteries are actually quite good, so it's a waste to just take one gun.

I, personally, either take a strong artillery battery of 4-5 guns and sit them on objectives, or a min squad of grots.

But if you have to choose between min squad of grots or guns, I'd go with the gun.

Lobbas would be best for what you're describing. Out of sight objective campers, perfect unless opp is running Lobbas themselves
