After looking over the Stormlord rules, and seeing the impressive 20 firing points, I figured why not use it as a more durable base for Heavy Weapon Teams? Especially considering the abundance of ignores cover making Aegis's less useful. Since you'll want to be firing twice with the mega bolter, you wouldn't really be moving the Stormlord much anyway?

Consider this:

Stormlord 500
6 HWS, autocannons 450
Techpriest, 35
5 servitors 30

For 1015 points that's a nigh unkillable base putting our 15/30 mega bolter shots and 36 autocannon shots...

Its a cool idea but not a good one imo as getting rid of 9 hull points is relitivly easy and if that happens everything inside takes a s10 ap2 and anything left has to fit in the foot print of the stormlord so there wont be many survivers.
Of course it all depends on your group.

If the side sponsons are swapped out for av14 sides, and another techpriest or two added with the rear covered, surely that'd be alright? That'd be at least 2/3 hull points recovered each turn, so as long as it would be bubblewrapped to stop deep strikering meltas... Seems decent?

Admittedly, I can't see it working outside apocalypse. At 1850 including 2 bubblewrap blobs, it'd be putting an awful lot of eggs in one basket.

Put that bad boy on a Landing pad! 4++ and loaded to bear with lascannons is nothing to scoff at, plus you can throw in a primaris or other psyker into the blob shielding it from assault to prescience it (or invisibility, that would be much much worse!) Heck you can bring that psyker group to fish for invisibility and have them hide on the platform right behind the tank but have it butted up against the board edge to prevent them being sniped

If you put so much points in effectively immobile "firebase" any competent opponent will just thank you and go on doing missions and getting victory points using terrain, range and other tricks to avoid your fire. Stormlord can be much better used as an ultra-durable objective-grabber and linebreaker.

By the way: if it WILL be killed you will want it to happen in the enemies deployment zone not yours .

Nigh unkillable is a massive overstatement. Especially considering you can't even kill the units that will smash the Stormlord in one go no problem (Imperial Knights, Wraith Knights) and you cost 3x as much

Not worth the points, but depending on whether the number of model able to fire from the fire points is effected by model size, it may have some merit as an area denial unit with a big mob of ogryn and Coteaz onboard. Sure bs3 s5 shooting isn't much, but at 3 shots a piece and the range matching Coteaz's "pseudo-interceptor" ability they should be able to protect it from 2 of the biggest threats of deepstriking melta and wraithguard, and being assault weapons they won't be affected by the stormlords movement and can charge any weaker units if the situation arises.

Just wish there was a way to get them hitting hard enough to threaten Knights as a counter charge if their ride was threatened.
