Hey people,

Recently got back into warhammer and generally used to prome my miniatures in a watered down basecoats of black as i felt i could control the application better without losing detail...since returning to the hobby ive decided on a high elf force (Aelfs now) haha and i think the sprays are a little pricey i wondered if anyone out there has promed miniatures in a white base coat or citadel white paint. Is this a terrible idea because it might not cover well and would take me far too many layers?
Should i stop being a cheap skate and just buy the white spray?

Cheers peeps!!

I prefer to spray my models to prime, and I'd agree that white is preferable for models like High elves (it's what I've used for my elves). There are alternatives to GW for sprays though. Army Painter, for instance, offers some more affordable paints and their stuff coats fairly consistently.

Rustoleum and krylon are also great alternatives. Even £1 white acrylic primer from the hardware store would quite likely turn out fine

I used a white spray to prime my elfs (started them in 7th ed) but that's because I went with default blue/white elfs.

Worked out fine.

Haven't used GW rattlecans in almost 2 decades, though.

I bought a can of rustoleum white primer and was worried about the "2x coverage" thing on the label - I didn't want to lose detail but then my brain stopped farting and I realised it meant twice the surface area not twice the thickness.
