So I'm in the process of making a really sweet iron warriors army list. Still a few units I have to collect but I have a majority of them. I haven't yet found a place to field my army and test my mettle and I know that could heavily affect the way my list plays but that doesn't really matter to me anyhow. I'm trying to keep it fluffy even though my list may come across as bit "assaulty" but that's still ok right? They're seige specialists after all! Even though marks of chaos could benefit me I would rather keep it undivided because we don't need God's we have Iron! All suggestions are welcomed as long as it can be explained away to the correct fluff.

HQ 275pts

Powerfist
Burning brand of skalathrax
Chaos bike
Sigil of corruption

Warpsmith

Troops - 400pts
Chaos space marines x10

10 csm can take 2 special guns. Do that instead of 1 heavy and 1 assault.

Second Filch.. I'd double up on specials within CSM squads and never mix. If you want lascannons, you need Oblits or Sicarans fo sho.

Bikes should really have melta- we need all the speed + tank killiness we can get.

Put lasher tendrils on your mauler fiends. Anything they hit will die regardless of the melta cutters.

How about 5 Havocs with a couple of lascannons, then the remaining chaos marines can be split into two squads (as even as possible or maybe 5 and 10?) with the flamers.

If you go the Havoc route, don't give them a rhino, even if you plan on having them sit in one. Borrowing one of the troop rhinos will mean you have one less point to give away in Big Guns Never Tire.

This way you still get to use your models, but the squads equipment is arranged in a slightly more synergistic fashion and you have an extra squad for objective capturing.

Oh and with 4 points remaining it might be a good idea to throw a couple a combat knife or bolter onto models to give them bolter, bp, ccw...

Oh wait, just realised if you split the 2 csm squads into 2 csm + havoc that costs 10 points more, leaving you 6 points over... not sure where you could lose those 6 points from :s.

Too expensive units that don's synergize well. Also, fast attack is not something I associate with Iron Warriors. I see neither Oblits nor artillery.

My suggestion is to ally in Heretics som Siege of Vraks. Cheap artillery, cheap hordes (zombies, mutants or heretics) and very cheap Rapier anti tank. For the fluff they are Iron Warrior serfs, doing the heavy lifting (and dying) while the CSM are specialists, bosses and assault troops.

Drop the bikers - ordinarily a very good unit, but not in this case. Fill the Land Raider with PA marines equipped for CC and a Lord/Sorcerer. Min squads in Rhinos, Maulerfiends and Oblits. Heretics for the rest.

I'll second the comments about removing the lascannons from the squads - remember if you want to shoot a tank with that lascannon, then the rest of the squad is sitting around doing nothing. The only heavy weapons I'd put in infantry squads are those that can do the job of bolters, only better (heavy bolters). Consider having one squad as two flamers, and one squad with two meltas? I think you'll get a lot of points for a lot of guns if you swap the terminators for Obliterators and the Land Raider for a couple of tanks or a Havoc Squad personally.

As for the "siege specialists" thing, all of the stuff I've read about Iron Warriors has really appealed. The majority of their troops would be standing back and laying waste to enemy defenses, although what happens when you bust down a wall? You need something to take and hold that gap, which is where I see your Rhino-borne units and the Maulerfiend coming in handy. Assuming you have a solid heavy-support element (Vindicator/Predator/Havocs), they bust through the enemy fortifications, then the breaching units rush in with flamers and meltaguns to take and exploit the breach. Obviously whilst they're doing that, the Maulerfiend has been set loose carving through the enemy ranks...

Perhaps it's worth explaining what units you already have, and thus what units are a "must include" in your army? I know if I'm looking at making changes to a planned army, I'm not willing to compromise on already assembled (and perhaps painted) models too much!

The burning brand isn't that worth it in my opinion. It's on S4 so it lacks a heavy punch for it's points cost. For a similar points cost you can get the Mark of Nurgle and a lightning claw. That will give you an extra attack and protect you from being doubled out by S10 weapons. MoN on the bikes will also make them much more durable.

Personally, I'm a fan of the land raider but it's a very expensive unit. Especially when deep striking is a viable option for plasma terminators. For one land raider you can field 2 vindicators. S10 pie plates do wonders for all sorts of tasks.

Put dirge casters on your tanks, especially if carrying assault troops. Overwatch is freaking annoying.
