Note: I created a new thread for this as the other Warlord thread I keep for historicals only, and there is a separate Gates of Antares thread. I thought this warranted a new thread - but if a mod disagrees please feel free to move it. I'll keep it updated as I do the Warlord historicals thread

ANNOUNCEMENT: PROJECT Z – ZOMBIE SKIRMISH GAME

WARLORD GAMES DOES ZOMBIES!
As announced last year, Warlord Games are working closely with Wargames Factory to exclusively distribute their
plastic wargame kits worldwide.
This deal gave us access to all of the dark future apocalyptic ranges featuring Zombies, Survivors and several
unreleased models including a Biker gang and Special Ops military.

The team here at Warlord have been having such great fun over the past few months modelling, painting and
converting models from the Zombie range that we couldn’t help ourselves but produce a whole game system,
entitled Project Z!
Unlike the various boardgames on the market, Project Z is a proper tabletop skirmish wargame with freedom of
movement, terrain, stat-lines, etc, etc. Packed with undead mayhem, the game is quick and fun, packed with
awesome models, hordes of Zombies and buckets of dice!

Project Z is due to be available from Warlord Games in April this year supported by a complete range of plastic
box sets. We plan to showcase Project Z at the Salute wargames show this year so visit us there and take a closer look!
Stay tuned to the Warlord Games newsletter for more info soon!

Suddenly Mantic's Walking Dead just became a more interesting value proposition if I can use those models for two different games. ;-)

The main things I am personally interested in this is:

a) multipart plastic modern US Infantry with body armor and modern weapons loadouts. This is HUGE.

b) new male zombie sculpts to match the quality of the female zombies and survivors.

c) plastic motorcycles!

A game is just a bonus!

Already got heaps of zombies and survivors, will definitely get the rules for this. Will likely pick up some bikers and soldiers too. A Warlord guy on BoW also said there's other unreleased kits on the way that we don't yet know about...

This is awesome news! I'm glad those kits won't be getting shelved. Even better news though is that there are new kits! I'm quite certain that that's a new male zombie kit. The plastic multipart military kit is also great news. I hope they will have spare gas mask heads.

Agreed that multi-part modern infantry plastics would be huge, but my interest will really depend on how this gets packaged. It seems Warlord is pushing the big bundled sets of the WGF stuff and have dropped the old small WGF sets altogether. If they try to do Project Z with huge bundled sets I'll pass I only need 10-20 soldiers, not a damn battalion.

What do you mean? The Warlord packages for WGF are 24 to 30 infantry per box or 2 guns w/ crew & accessories per box.

I'm okay with this, it mainly looks like a repackage of stuff WGF already has, but needed a game to sell more of.

Win win situation for them and us.

Between this, the mantic Walking Dead KS and last year's Skirmish Outbreak there seems to be a good mix of proper tabletop zombie games around these days. As opposed to the more board game style that's been popular in the past 2/3 years.

I'm definitely interested to see the new minis and I've been meaning to pick up some of the WGF zombie stuff for some time.

I would definitely wait - the original WGF Zombies were one of their first kits (Tony Reidy era) are are realllllly bad. Wait for the new sculpt ones to be released by Warlord. I'm sure they'll do a big combo deal like they usually do!

Well I was contemplating the walking dead Kickstarter, but I'm more of the TV fan, so this kicks that idea right in the nads. I'll pick these rules up eventually, and probably bikers and soldiers too. I've got enough (not really) zombicide zombies to feed the gangs.

More zombies? Bah, Humbug! What ever happened to good ole fashioned vampires? Doesn't anyone like goth kids anymore?

I agree though, I think this could hurt TWD, but at he same time if TWD is a great deal, it could hurt this. But I guess neither can afford to wait since I'm sure the next Zombicide campaign is secretly right around the corner too.

Ah, I hadn't seen the new releases. Last I looked the only WGF stuff Available through Warlord were big bundles of AWI. The smaller boxes hadn't been posted.

Ah yeah gotcha! I assume it's easier to print the boxes for like 1000 big sets at first and sell those while the print runs for a half dozen smaller boxes of say 10,000 per get done...

CMON still needs to finish up Black Plague before they worry about another Zombicide campaign.

What they really ought to do is something SciFi again. It's been a while...

I would think they would be... WGF is now just a manufacturer for Warlord, in the same way Renedra manufactures a few kits for Warlord and the other plastics company that Warlord uses / owns a controlling interest in... and those last two are included in the 50% off sales.
These are Warlord branded kits, unlike the Agema or Perry or Victrix that Warlord distributes.

Honestly not sure how much this could get hurt by TWD or Zombicide. The sprues were shown last year at salute, so the money has already been spent. Plus this will be out well before TWD arrives and like most gamers they will spend their $$$ up front. Anyone on my drawn in by TWD, probably wouldn't know about this anyway, so it's not really lost revenue. If anything they might grab some of the hype and customers as TWD fans will be talking it up and if they are interested, might grab this off the shelf while they are waiting for TWD to come out.

Zombicide.....well when you plan to go against the big boys you better bring your A game. These are multipose plastics, like Grimdork mentioned he is turned away from Zombicide because of multiples of the same figure. TWD may be monopole as well, and Mantic says they are a larger scale, so who knows how well they will fit with the rest of your gaming figs.

I suspect that this game will be more up my alley than TWD. No named characters (hopefully) and potentially fully player created warbands. TWD only seems to be offering player created characters and warbands as an afterthought. At least with this, I should be able to field whatever random stuff I want. Hopefully they'll also include the option to have unique and mutated zombies as well.

WOOOOO, I'm all over this!
The male survivors kit is something that really impressed me and the fact that you get 2 motorcycles on that sprue.. HOLY CRAP!!!! 28mm motorcycles are somewhat hard to find and the ones out there are stupidly expensive so yup.. sign me up. It comes with a bunch of really cool possibilities to expand the other kits as well.. *drool*

Then.. modern US infantry. For real? This is better and better. They are giving Mantic the middle finger, presumably unintentionally left and right with all of this. If they release multipart martians it will be the last bit of icing on that cake.

It's funny that even though this is "moar zombehs" (oh yay.. we're probably all good on that front) all the other implications of this have me more excited than I have been about miniatures news in a long while.

Like Zombicide: Deep Space? You know its coming next...

Give the success of Zombicides 1-3, and Black Plague, I have little doubt that there will be a sci-fi version coming along to tap into the sci-fi market.

Zombicide in space will totally happen at some point. The question is, will it be on a colony world or a space station? Regardless, I would back the hell out of Zombicide in space.
