So I am waiting for my Dark Angels Codex to arrive in the mail and have been reading up all the lore I can. I want to build a small Ravenwing Army as a second army. Bikers RAR!!! Anyways I was wondering how did the secretive Dark Angels explain to the rest of the Imperium the destruction of Caliban? Ooh yeh our Homeworld blew up guys, nothing to see here.

They didn't. Caliban never existed. Anything else is heresy.

Okay so I found they just said a Warp Storm destroyed it and no one really questioned it considering the turmoil of the aftermath of the Heresy.

IIRC it was either a Warp Storm or Horus.

to the imperium at large if they could find a record of caliban, as most were "lost", it would report destroyed by warp storm.
to an member of company X scout/initiates they would learn we wear green as a reminder of the forests of coriban that was destroyed by chaos or xenos.
as the the marine advanced up through the company's he would learn that it was destroyed because chaos had corrupted the people on the planet.
as they hit the second company they would learn that chaos had corrupted some of their brothers into the chaos space marines and voidbeasts. they would learn their purpose to track down tge fallen at all costs.
in the first company they would learn it was Luther that betrayed tge lion, and the names of the fallen. and that if need be they can call on the other da chapters to assist, but not why.
only the inner most members woukd know that the first legion still is functioning as a legion with the purpose of hunting all the fallen one..
ps correct me if im wrong

likely warp storm with the heavy implication Horus was the one who created said storm. which yeah no one's likely to question.

They blamed a warp storm I guess.
But it had something to do with that Alien/ Daemon/ Organ? things time paradox birth in the last lot of DA novels.

The thing about the Imperium is it's big. You don't have to explain much any particular goings on, because no one will notice.
Especially on the coat-tails of the Horus Heresy. Whoever was in charge of the Dark Angels during the Scouring (that's a guy whose story we'd really like to see) could just go "warp storm took our planet" and everyone else would just shrug.
But seriously, how come we don't know anything about this guy. He had the temerity to lie right to Guilliman's and several other Primarchs' faces about splitting up the legion. In my head cannon, I like to think that Guilliman wasn't fooled, and he was settling for just in-name-only splitting up, and it was Dorn and Russ who were just to stupid to understand they were just putting on a show for the rest of the mortal Imperium.

Well, since it was in the immediate aftermath of the Heresy and the Lion had just disappared, it might have been several guys. I mean that's probably why they call it the Inner Circle.
But yea, not that many named characters that would be influential enough left at this point, with Zahariel and Nemiel out of the picture. Corswain might come up again, since ADB's still active. Maybe there's even a chance he becomes the first Supreme Grand Master.

Didnt a book come out that presents a case that modern Dark Angels are responsible for the destruction of Caliban by ways of Warp Shenanigans, Typhus and of course everyone's favorite Fallen, Cypher.

There's literally no explanation in the codex itself, lol.

That's exactly what it said lol. It's totally implausible like everything to do with Dark Angels.
I just read the Cypher article on a 40k wiki the other day. The dude just phases in and out of existence at the precise correct time, every time. He's like a renegade good guy Dark Angel with omniscience that knows everything and has a master plan.
For the most shady chapter in the universe, people really don't give the Dark Angels a very hard time.
This is a great article on the subject. http://warhammer40k.wikia.com/wiki/Cypher#The_Dark_Secret
Here's an interesting story about Garviel Loken, a loyalist Luna Wolf that infiltrated Caliban before the Warp Storm hit. He meets Cypher who helps him escape.

I always got the impression the Lion was involved in the splitting up, as much as it was, then went back home and started his long nap. You'd think RG would have been a bit more suspicious if the Lion was missing at the time of the divide, as whats to say he had not fallen to Chaos and his boys were covering for him

The Second Founding didn't take place until seven years after the end of the Heresy. That's plenty of time for the Lion to go missing.
(Apparently the Second Founding took place in 021.M31, while the Destruction of Caliban took place in 015.M31. Not sure how reliable the sources are though).

Believe it or not the Cypher lore is from the Cypher dataslate. He actually has some pretty neat rules.

As far as Garviel Loken...
(that's him fighting Abaddon) The idea is, Loken was the final loyalist Luna Wolf.
Here's the source material for Loken's mission to Caliban: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Grey_Angel_%28Audio_Book%29
