Subject: Ironclad or Dreadnought?

Dakkanoughts,
I have a small dilima on if I should chose an Ironclad Dreadnought or a Dreadnought for my Iron Hands list. The purpose that I have my Ironclad is for a bully type unit equipped with two HF and I made a similar load out for a Dreadnought with TL HF and HF both in a Drop Pod of course. I like to use my dreadnought to be a distraction unit and then hunt down a tank if it survives. Is the Ironclad worth the extra 30pts with the AV13 and special rules attached or will the Dreadnought due the job just as good? I know some of you would simply say to get rid of the dreadnought idea all together but I like them and usually take one in every army list I play.
Mr. Raynor

If your gonna take a dread i'd go with the Ironclad. AV13 will be very useful when facing lists with mass str6 which is currently very popular.

I'm torn, you are already using it as an expensive nurgle mutilator, so part of me says keep it cheap, but on the other hand immunity to krak grenades seems like such a no brainer...
Seeing as you are playing Iron Hands I am going to suggest the more iron the better so Ironclad. 30 points isn't gonna break the bank, even if it could be spent better elsewhere.

If you have the points, go for the ironclad. The extra AV is worth it.

Is it deep striking in? Then use it as an Ironclad, as it can get right up in your opponent's face and he'll have to deal with it, and then the AV 13 makes it harder to kill with guns.
Is it going to be on foot, stomping around and counter attacking whatever threatens your firebase of tanks and infantry? Then use it as a regular Dreadnought, as the longer range on its guns will allow it to contribute and AV 12 won't be as much of a liability, as the opponent will be less inclined to shoot at it (he'll be shooting at your fire base units instead) and AV 12 is about as good in close combat as AV 13.
Based on your plans for the model, I'd say go for the Ironclad. It costs more, but it's better at that role.

That is what I was leaning towards but wanted some other opinions since I could use the 30pts for some cool tricks. Thanks!

I love Ironclads and I think they are totally worth their points. I take mine with dual flamers (sometimes a melta) with their assault launchers to give them full initiative when they charge through cover and deny enemies their +1 attack from charging.
Only time I would consider opting out of taking ironclads would be if I was taking two of them so for that many points I could take three regular dreads. Their AV 13 is a huge deal.

2 Ironclads are arguably better than 3 dreads cause of av13.

Ironclads are amazing in Drop Pods, front AV13 makes you immune to Strength 6 - i.e. Windriders, krak grenades - and is just invaluable.

I run Ironclads only in my Salamanders force. With the melta and heavy flamer in a drop pod. AV 13 makes those extra points you pay totally worth it. Otherwise, standard dreads just aren't worth it imho.

+1 On the Ironclad. I take 1 single ironclad equipped with power claw and chain fist + 2x Heavy flamer. Drop him in the heart of your opponents formation and let him breath fire down there throat.
