Hello,

I have dark angels black knights and deathwing knights that I would like to incorporate with Tau as an allied force. I was thinking DW knights in a land raider with the black knights going to grab objectives while Tau sit back and shoot.

how can this be done legally if Tau is primary detachment? ravenwing strike force cant do it and DW strike force cant do it. I guess I need to bring a regular CAD to bring them eh? so that means a troop tax of marines which I really dont want to bring.

What would you suggest to use for tau allied with this? some fire warriors with etheral backing up a riptide pathfinders and..? I am unfamiliar with Tau and would love to ally them with my current DA as I have the models painted already. playing primarily 1500 point games some 2000 point games

thanks so much!

Well an allied detachment could look like this

Interrogator chaplain
-bike
Ravenwing Command Squad (6 man)
-apothecary
Deathwing Knights
Land raider (whatever flavor you want)
Scouts

That's roughly 940 points give or take my mental math and extra upgrades. You'd probably be better of dropping the land raider since the bikes have a telehomer.

If you want the Tau to sit back and shoot as a gunline, I'd recommend you base your force on Broadsides, Riptides, Hammerheads, Skyrays, Fire Warriors and missile-armed Crisis Suits. If the Tau want to range forward, causing trouble and doing some grabbing themselves, consider Piranhas, Stealth Suits, Riptides, Ghostkeels, Crisis Suits (plasma/ion/fusion) and maybe Kroot.

In my experience, gunlines don't work all that well except for with the super-heavy suits - there are advantages to staying mobile.
